Position Summary:
Provides analytical support for actuarial, predictive modeling, and business analytics initiatives that inform underwriting, pricing, reserving, and financial decision-making.
Collaborates with business intelligence, data engineering, actuarial, and external business partners to support predictive model performance, regulatory reporting, actuarial analyses, and enterprise reporting capabilities. Utilizes data, reporting, and analytical tools to evaluate trends, improve business insights, and support organizational objectives related to risk management, operational performance, and profitability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives; adheres to departmental policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards as applicable, and consistently exhibits Chesapeake’s Values and Behaviors.
- Leads monitoring, analysis, reporting, and communication of underwriting predictive model outcomes, including model recalibrations, feature updates, performance tracking, and evaluation of return on investment.
- Supports the development and implementation of predictive models, including deployment strategies, integration into business workflows, organizational change management, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Assists in the review and assessment of the quality and completeness of data submitted for reserving, ratemaking, and regulatory reporting activities.
- Supports underwriting portfolio segmentation, large account pricing analyses, sold-to-indicated price monitoring, and other actuarial and underwriting analytical initiatives.
- Performs actuarial analysis and calculations related to policyholder, individual, and safety group dividend programs.
- Supports preparation of statutory reporting, including Schedule P, reserve analyses, annual statements, rate filings, and related actuarial documentation.
- Collaborates with Finance and other business partners to support reinsurance monitoring, reporting, and billing activities.
- Partners with business intelligence analysts, data engineers, and IT professionals to understand data structures, optimize reporting capabilities, and improve data quality.
- Supports reserve reporting, pricing analyses, and regulatory reporting initiatives through research, analysis, and data validation.
- Develops reports, analyses, and executive-level insights to support management decision-making.
- Other duties and project work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of actuarial concepts, predictive modeling techniques, and statistical analysis methodologies.
- Proficiency in SQL and data analysis tools used to query, validate, and analyze large datasets.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of data management principles, reporting methodologies, and business intelligence concepts.
- Ability to summarize and present financial, actuarial, and operational data with actionable conclusions and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, or a related analytical field.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in actuarial analysis, business analytics, predictive modeling, data analytics, or related analytical work.
- Experience working with data analysis and reporting tools.
- Effectively utilizes technologies and tools, including Microsoft 365 and role-specific platforms, to support productivity and efficient work practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Property and casualty insurance experience.
- Experience supporting predictive modeling, actuarial analysis, business intelligence, or advanced analytics initiatives.
- Experience working with statistical modeling, reporting, or data visualization tools.
- Progress toward actuarial credentialing or related professional certifications preferred.
