In this hands-on field role, you will install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair water meters and related equipment that support reliable water service throughout the community. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Key Responsibilities Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair residential and commercial water meters and related equipment.Perform meter leak repairs and replace or reset meter boxes, lids, and covers.Assist with the installation, support, and maintenance of automated meter infrastructure (AMI) systems and large meter testing programs.Collect, maintain, and document field and shop data, test results, and work performed using computerized systems and records.Operate and maintain tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and other equipment required for meter repair and field operations.Respond to customer inquiries and service requests professionally and effectively while helping resolve meter-related concerns.For a full description of examples of duties, please refer to the job descriptions by visiting the following: Meter Technician
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb and descend ladders, to operate inspection equipment and varied tools, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various District sites; and vision to conduct inspections and read printed materials and a computer. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to investigate problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to operate and repair tools and equipment. Employees must possess the ability to carry, push, pull, and lift materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds with the use of proper equipment.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust, and air contaminants. Employees may be exposed to blood borne pathogens. WORKING CONDITIONS Employees may be required to work outside their Normal Workweek/Workday which may consist of evenings, weekends, and holidays.
