JOB OUTLINE
The Service Technician (Shop) is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Kubota and other manufacturers' agricultural, turf, and compact construction equipment within the branch shop facility, working under the direction of the Service Manager. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and diagnostic support, with opportunities to develop toward more advanced technical work. This is a shop-based position; all work is performed within the branch facility and does not involve field or on-site travel. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strict adherence to all safety protocols and company procedures at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Diagnostics & Repair
▸ Diagnoses routine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on tractors, skid steers, mowers, and other compact equipment using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and physical inspection.
▸ Performs repairs and adjustments to engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and undercarriage systems, seeking guidance from senior technicians or the Service Manager on complex issues as needed.
▸ Uses diagnostic software, scan tools, and multimeters to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
▸ Plans the method, sequence, and parts requirements for assigned repairs prior to beginning work; communicates scope changes or additional findings to the Service Manager promptly.
Maintenance & Reconditioning
▸ Performs scheduled preventive maintenance services including oil and fluid changes, filter replacements, inspections, adjustments, and lubrication services.
▸ Performs routine repairs and reconditioning of equipment components, including engines, hydraulics, steering, braking, and cooling systems.
▸ Conducts pre- and post-repair inspections to verify work is completed correctly and equipment meets safety and operational standards before return to customer.
▸ Ensures the cosmetic appearance of equipment upon repair completion meets company standards; cleans and prepares equipment as required.
Documentation & Parts
▸ Maintains accurate and complete work order documentation, including labor time, parts used, outside purchases, and detailed descriptions of diagnostics and repairs performed.
▸ Orders parts and materials required for assigned repairs; ensures unused parts and materials are returned per established guidelines.
▸ Accountable for billable time on assigned work orders; accurately tracks and reports time spent on each job throughout the workday.
Shop Operations & Safety
▸ Operates and properly maintains shop tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilities, including pneumatic and power tools, hydraulic jacks, hoists, and welding equipment.
▸ Must supply and maintain a personal toolset adequate to perform assigned job responsibilities.
▸ Follows all safety rules, regulations, and company policies in performing every work assignment; this is a safety-sensitive role and full compliance is required at all times.
▸ Adheres to all OSHA standards and applicable EPA regulations, including proper handling, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials, fluids, and waste.
▸ Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all tasks; actively contributes to a safe and hazard-free shop environment.
▸ Keeps the work area clean, organized, and in safe operating condition at all times.
Customer Service & Teamwork
▸ Communicates professionally with customers and the service team regarding repair status, findings, and recommendations.
▸ Collaborates with other technicians and shop personnel to ensure efficient workflow and quality outcomes.
▸ Maintains current knowledge of equipment products, systems, and technologies relevant to the service department.
▸ Performs all other duties as assigned by the Service Manager.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
▸ Working knowledge of gas and diesel engine systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and undercarriage components as used in Kubota and other compact equipment brands.
▸ Ability to perform basic-to-intermediate diagnostics using diagnostic software, scan tools, multimeters, and other electronic diagnostic equipment.
▸ Ability to read and interpret technical service manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts schematics.
▸ Proficiency in the use of shop tools and equipment, including pneumatic wrenches and hydraulic jacks and hoists.
▸ Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and timely work order records.
▸ Basic computer skills sufficient to use diagnostic software, work order systems, and parts lookup tools.
▸ Valid driver's license required.
QUALIFICATIONS
▸ 1+ years of experience performing service, maintenance, or repairs on Kubota, agricultural, turf, or compact construction equipment preferred; will train the right candidate.
▸ Vocational or technical school certificate or degree in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of hands-on experience and on-the-job training will be considered.
▸ High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
▸ Kubota factory training or certification a plus, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
▸ Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items weighing 20–50 pounds; occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds or more with assistance.
▸ Regular bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, twisting, and kneeling throughout the workday.
▸ Ability to reach at shoulder level and above; ability to work in confined, awkward, or elevated positions when servicing equipment.
▸ Ability to climb on and underneath equipment to perform repairs, inspections, and servicing tasks.
▸ Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
▸ Adequate vision and hearing to read technical documentation, identify equipment faults, and communicate effectively in a shop environment.
▸ Ability to walk frequently between the shop, parts department, and wash bay throughout the workday.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION & SAFETY SENSITIVE DUTIES
▸ Operates forklifts, telehandlers, and other material handling equipment to load, unload, and position parts, attachments, and equipment within the shop and yard.
▸ Operates a variety of construction and turf equipment — including skid steers, track loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, and compact tractors — to test repairs, reposition units, and support shop and yard operations.
▸ Loads, unloads, and moves equipment on and off trailers and transport vehicles, including staging units for delivery, demonstration, or service.
▸ Performs test drives and operational checks on repaired equipment to verify proper function prior to customer delivery.
▸ Maintains required certifications for forklift and powered industrial truck operation in accordance with OSHA standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is performed entirely within the branch shop facility. The work environment includes regular exposure to noise, dust, grease, exhaust, hydraulic fluids, and varying temperatures typical of an active equipment service shop. The employee works in proximity to operating machinery and elevated equipment and is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times. This is a safety-sensitive position.
