Full Job Description

Millhill Child and Family Development was established in 1971 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving abused and neglected children in Trenton, NJ. The services and programs we provide today have been developed over time and with great understanding of what the community needs. We began primarily as a childcare center, and flourished and expanded by communicating with parents and the community.

The Family Worker serves as a primary point of contact for Millhill’s early childhood families and ensures all enrollment goals are met. Acting as an advocate and resource navigator, this role ensures families are engaged in their child's early education, helps maintain state compliance standards, and connects parents to local community resources to support school readiness. This position reports to the Director of Education. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Responsibilities:

Ensures all enrollment goals are met in a timely manner
Serves as a point of contact with families in the program and in building a positive trusting relationship with families Initiates and conducts outreach along with stakeholder and community engagement activities to achieve enrollment goals
Attends school district meetings and events as required
Develops and manages parent advisory groups and parent engagement events
Monitors daily attendance and implements supportive intervention plans for chronic absence
Maintains confidential, accurate, and up-to-date family files, contact logs, and tracking systems required by both the center and the school district
Assists in marketing to ensure that all advertising, social media, public relations pieces, etc. are accurate
Partners with classroom teachers to address student needs
Completes and maintains the USDA (lunch) Applications
Inputs student information in Outcome Tracker and prepares classroom information reports
Conducts Home Visit process to build rapport with families
Connects families to local Trenton social services, including healthcare, housing assistance, mental health services, and nutrition programs (e.g., WIC, local food pantries)
Maintains strict confidentiality of all family and child information

These duties are not inclusive. Other duties assigned as necessary to facilitate smooth functions of the agency.

Experience

High school diploma
1–3 years of experience working with culturally diverse families and young children (ages 3–5) in an urban community setting
Bilingual candidates are preferred
Experience working with children and families in an educational setting

Qualifications

Requires some flexibility and availability to work occasional weekends during parent engagement events
Familiarity with community resources and social services
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels, including staff, parents, and children
Strong problem solving, displays initative and organizing skills
Strong computer skills, with data entry experience, and software proficiency with all Microsoft applications
Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for transportation
Ability to take direction, but also work independently and collaboratively as a team player, resourceful, and creative thinker
