Position: Agronomist

About the Role
The Agronomist is the technical lead for all crop production strategies at Big Dipper Ranch. This role requires a balance of boots-on-the-ground scouting, precision data management, and high-level financial awareness. Like all roles here, you are expected to master your primary duties while actively supporting the team to ensure the entire farm succeeds in any market condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Crop Strategy & Scouting: Conduct regular field scouting for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies. Develop and adapt comprehensive seed, chemical, and fertilizer plans.
- Think Like a Manager: Run every chemical and fertilizer recommendation through a business lens. Optimize input costs without sacrificing yield potential, keeping the financial health of the farm a top priority.
- Precision Ag Management: Manage soil and tissue sampling programs, generate variable rate prescriptions, and analyze yield data to drive continuous improvement.
- Field Trials & Innovation: Oversee on-farm trials (e.g., application rate adjustments, new product testing) and deliver clear, actionable data to the management team.
- Team Support: Fulfill your core agronomic duties while directly supporting the field team, clearly communicating technical strategies to ensure seamless execution from the office to the dirt.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a related field.
- Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) certification is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in crop scouting, chemical recommendations, and precision agriculture software.
- Ability to translate complex agronomic data into clear, financially sound operational plans.
- Strong communication skills with a willingness to support field operators and management.
- Willingness to spend significant time in the field during all weather conditions during peak growing seasons.

- Compensation: Salary based on experience and qualifications.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
