Full Job Description

Position Summary: The position promotes and books the Club's facilities for banquets, meetings and social functions. The position also develops contracts for services and works with other departments to ensure that the guest's needs are met.

Job Duties:

Serves as a positive role model by:

It is expected professional attire at all times, suits and ties for men, suits, skirts or dresses with jackets or cover-ups like sweaters are required. Always maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Working with peers to meet members' needs.
Representing the Club in its relationships with members and guests

Successfully prospect and confirm groups 75 guests to meet monthly booking revenue goals mutually agreed upon with the Catering Director.

Negotiate with clients through the use of creative and attractive menu presentations and event proposals, to achieve both maximum revenue/profit potential and fulfillment of contractual responsibilities while satisfying client needs.

Finalize the requirements of confirmed bookings while maximizing revenue potential through up selling and ensuring effective communication both written (Resumes, BEO, Daily Reports) and personal contact with all departments for the success of the event. Communicate the needs and expectations of the client with all departments in the club. Maintain an active trace/follow-up system. Ensure accuracy of Event Checks and provide bill review on completion of program or event.

Supervise the execution of events. Review all function space with Banquet Manager and when necessary, lead operations team member. Ensure successful execution and satisfaction of client at the outset of all events.

Comply with the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club standards for event services, while working harmoniously and professionally with co-workers.

Make timely and impromptu decisions, which balance clients' needs with the financial, safety and staffing goals of the club.

Maintain knowledge of club facilities, capacities and dimensions of meeting space and basic operational needs of all operating departments.

Join local chapter of NACE or ILEA and attend monthly meetings for education and networking.

Experience and/or Education:

Minimum of an Associate degree. Degree in hospitality considered an asset
Minimum of 3 years' experience in the hospitality field

Job Competencies:

Ability to work with other employees as part of a team.
Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed to ensure that events are properly set up and smooth execution and finishing touches.
Exceptional Customer Service Skills
Self-Motivated
Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
Ability to walk and stand most of the event when present.
Ability to climb stairs multiple times during an event.

Work will generally be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Temperatures can range from 32 F to 100+ F and there may be exposure to loud noises and sustained elements. Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, stretch and reach. Working schedule is up to 40 hours per week, with some holidays, nights and weekends.
