Full Job Description

Position Summary

BDANENY is seeking a versatile, strategic, and hands-on Executive Director (ED) to lead our chapter. As the chief executive officer, you will wear many hats—acting as both the strategic visionary and the operational anchor for the organization. You will oversee everything from high-level advocacy and coalition building to day-to-day office administration, financial oversight, fundraising, and member support.

The ideal candidate is an empathetic leader with a sharp business mind, a passion for healthcare advocacy, and the ability to comfortably pivot between community engagement and rigorous non-profit compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Office Administration & Financial Oversight

Daily Operations: Manage tech infrastructure, equipment, supplies, and database maintenance (Bloomerang). Oversee essential apps and programs (Zoom, Microsoft Office, MailChimp, Namecheap, etc.).
Financial Management: Handle payroll, bill paying, and meticulous budgeting.
Compliance & Banking: Provide oversight for banking and financial services (Key Bank, credit card processing). Ensure full compliance with the IRS, NYS, and the NYS Charities Bureau.
Insurance & HR Risk: Manage Workers' Compensation, disability, and Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance policies.

2. Fundraising & Development

Event Planning: Direct major annual fundraising initiatives, most notably the signature BDANENY Walk.
Grant Management: Write, submit, and report on organizational and program-specific grants.
Vendor & Corporate Relations: Manage industry vendor relationships, including pharmaceutical and specialty pharmacy portals and formal letters of request.

3. Advocacy & Policy Tracking

Coalition & Government Relations: Represent BDANENY in the NYS Bleeding Disorders Coalition; meet with government officials, write advocacy letters, and champion bills of interest.
Policy Monitoring: Stay current on federal and state policies, programs, and pending legislation (including CDC, NIH, CMS, SSA, and Medicaid).
Care Barrier Identification: Actively identify and address impediments to patient care, including inpatient issues, Medicare/Medicaid hurdles, and commercial insurance barriers.

4. Member Support & Community Education

Direct Aid Programs: Oversee the administration of member support initiatives, including BDA Grants, emergency funds, travel reimbursements, scholarships, and MedicAlert bracelets.
Educational Programming: Plan and execute sponsored dinners, webinars, and the BDANENY Annual Meeting.

5. Marketing, Communications & Design

Digital Presence: Maintain the organization's website, including technical backend tasks (domains, SSL certificates, and Cloudflare).
Public Relations: Drive community engagement via Facebook, MailChimp newsletters, and internal graphic design needs for promotional materials.

6. Coalition Building & Meetings Management

Strategic Partnerships: Foster vital relationships with regional and national partners, including but not limited to Medicaid Matters, the Chapter & Staff Organization (CSO), HFA, NBDF, the Red Cross, Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce, Troy BID, Stewart’s, Double H Ranch, and Sickle Cell/other disease state associations.
Stakeholder Meetings: Manage communications and logistics for the Board of Directors, organizational committees, Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs), and corporate vendors.

Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in non-profit management, healthcare administration, or a relevant sector preferred.
Technical & Financial Acumen: Proven experience managing payroll, budgets, NYS compliance (Charities Bureau), and fundamental IT/database systems (Bloomerang, MailChimp, Cloudflare/web domains).
Advocacy & Healthcare Knowledge: Strong understanding of New York State legislative processes, Medicaid, and the healthcare barriers facing rare disease communities.
Fundraising Prowess: Demonstrated success in grant writing, event logistics (Walks), and corporate vendor relations.
Design & Communication: Basic graphic design capability and excellent written communication skills for newsletters, letter-writing campaigns, and digital media.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Business, Public Administration, Public Health, Non-Profit Management) preferred
