Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports day-to-day and strategic HR operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for administering HR policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with federal and state regulations, supporting employee relations, staffing, payroll, benefits, and risk management. The HR Generalist serves as a primary point of contact for employees and supervisors and works closely with plant leadership to support workforce effectiveness and compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administer and apply HR policies, procedures, and programs consistently and in compliance with federal and state employment laws.
Serve as a primary HR contact for employees and supervisors, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and workplace issues.
Manage the full recruitment and hiring process for hourly and salaried manufacturing roles, including applicant tracking, interview coordination, and hiring documentation.
Coordinate the use of temporary staffing agencies, including onboarding, tracking hours, and verifying weekly payroll.
Develop and conduct new hire orientation and onboarding, support training and employee development initiatives.
Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and employee questions; maintain accurate records.
Manage the Workers’ Compensation program, including incident reporting, claim coordination, and communication with third-party administrators.
Respond to unemployment claims, government inquiries, and separation-related requests in a timely and accurate manner.
Enter and review payroll data and manage the timekeeping system to ensure accurate and timely processing.
Support and lead employee relations activities, including investigations, corrective action, and conflict resolution.
Work with insurance brokers, Workers’ Compensation partners, and other external vendors to support compliance and risk management.
Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, including:
Personnel and medical files
Benefits and leave records
Workers’ Compensation documentation
Job descriptions
Payroll and timekeeping records
Attendance and time-off tracking
Recruitment and staffing records

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of progressive human resources experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
Travel required between locations weekly.
Proven experience handling employee relations issues in a non-union setting.
Ability to work effectively on the plant floor and build strong relationships with hourly and salaried employees.
Strong organizational and administrative skills with close attention to detail.
Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
Solid problem-solving skills with a practical, solution-focused approach.
Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
