Job Overview
The GLOBE Academy is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and service-oriented Custodian to join our Operations & Facilities team.
The Custodian plays an important role in creating a clean, safe, welcoming, and operationally ready school environment for our students, staff, families, and visitors. This position is responsible for the daily hands-on cleaning and care of classrooms, restrooms, dining areas, offices, common spaces, and other assigned areas of the school. In addition to daily custodial responsibilities, this position will assist with basic repairs, general facilities maintenance, furniture assembly, and campus improvement projects throughout the school.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, notices and addresses needs proactively, is comfortable completing basic repairs and maintenance projects, works effectively both independently and as part of a team, and understands that maintaining a school environment requires flexibility and responsiveness throughout the day. This aligns with the JD's expectation that the Custodian independently maintains assigned areas while collaborating with the Head Custodian and responding to changing facility needs.
Key Responsibilities

● Perform routine floor care, including mopping, scrubbing, buffing, stripping, and waxing/finishing as trained and assigned.
● Conduct regular walkthroughs of assigned areas to proactively identify cleaning, maintenance, safety, supply, or facility concerns.
● Monitor restrooms throughout the day and ensure toilet paper, paper towels, soap, trash liners, and other supplies remain stocked.
● Prepare and clean dining areas before, between, and after student meal periods.
● Respond promptly to spills, restroom issues, accidents, clogged fixtures, bodily-fluid incidents, and other emergency cleaning needs.
● Maintain entrances, sidewalks, and exterior areas free from litter and obvious debris.
● Maintain custodial closets, carts, equipment, tools, and storage areas in a clean, organized, safe, and secure condition.
● Move and arrange tables, chairs, furniture, equipment, and supplies for classrooms, meetings, assemblies, performances, professional learning, and special events.
● Assist with deliveries, packages, campus moves, room setups, and other operational needs.
● Support deep-cleaning projects during school breaks, summer operations, teacher workdays, and other designated periods.
● Provide custodial support for approved school activities and special events, including setup, restroom readiness, trash removal, breakdown, and post-event cleanup.
● Immediately report leaks, standing water, plumbing concerns, damaged fixtures, pest activity, electrical concerns, unusual odors, trip hazards, and other facility concerns.
● Follow established chemical-handling procedures, product instructions, Safety Data Sheets, PPE requirements, and workplace safety practices.
● Safeguard school keys, access cards, equipment, and security information and follow assigned building opening and closing procedures.
● Assist other members of the custodial team when absences, emergencies, events, workload, or campus needs require additional support.
● Communicate unfinished work, repair needs, supply needs, and facility concerns to the Head Custodian before leaving campus.
● Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

● Assemble, repair, relocate, and adjust classroom and office furniture, shelving, storage units, and other equipment.
● Perform interior touch-up painting and minor painting projects, including basic wall preparation, patching, and finishing.
● Complete light carpentry, such as minor repairs to doors, trim, shelving, cabinets, furniture, and similar building components.
● Perform minor plumbing-related tasks within the scope of training and authorization, such as addressing simple clogs, replacing basic fixtures or components, and identifying leaks or other plumbing concerns requiring professional service.
● Maintain a basic working knowledge of building electrical systems sufficient to recognize potential concerns, assist with troubleshooting, and safely perform authorized non-specialized tasks.
● Replace light bulbs and other basic, non-specialized building components when trained and authorized.
● Safely use common hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other equipment appropriate to assigned tasks.
● Assist with preventative maintenance, room resets, campus improvement projects, and other facilities-related projects.
● Identify repairs or maintenance concerns that require a specialized contractor or licensed professional and promptly report them to the Head Custodian or Operations/Facilities team.
The position is expected to address minor hazards and maintenance needs when safe and appropriate, while specialized electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, or similar repairs remain outside the role unless the employee is appropriately trained and authorized.
