Full Job Description

Job Overview
At Lloyd Construction Company, our Safety Manager is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of workplace safety. This role involves leading the development and implementation of comprehensive safety policies and procedures, aimed at minimizing the risk of job-related accidents and promoting occupational health and safety awareness.

The Safety Manager works closely with the Director of Environmental Health and Safety Director, Safety Coordinators, Superintendents, Foremen, Laborers & Subcontractor’s to monitor operations and eliminate hazardous activities. They are responsible for overseeing all aspects of employee safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, and fostering a culture of prevention and vigilance.

This position demands exceptional diligence, analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail. The Safety Manager must be adept at identifying potential dangers and implementing proactive measures to mitigate risks. Their leadership is crucial in creating and maintaining a safe work environment across various industries, ultimately supporting the goal of a healthy and secure workplace for all employees.

CHAIN OF COMMAND – Reports to the Director of Environmental Health & Safety

Manages other site safety and/or additional 3rd party Site Safety Managers, as needed.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Supervision

Lead, mentor, and support safety personnel, including Safety Coordinators and site safety staff.
Assign daily responsibilities, KPIs, and performance objectives for safety team members.
Foster positive safety culture across all projects and teams.
Participate in project pre‑planning and ensure safety is integrated into all work plans.
Provide administrative and technical support for the Safety Committee.

Safety Program Implementation

Plan, implement, and manage Lloyd Construction’s overall safety program.
Develop and maintain site‑specific safety plans, emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, crane lifting plans (including FAA requirements), and excavation plans.
Conduct new‑hire safety orientations and ongoing training.
Ensure posting of safety bulletins, rules, and applicable legislation.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADOSH, and all federal/state/local safety standards.
Conduct and document routine jobsite inspections (minimum weekly and monthly requirements).
Accompany ADOSH, insurance, or loss‑control representatives during audits.
Stop any unsafe operations that pose risk to life or property.
Maintain accurate OSHA logs, SDS documentation, and other required records.

Incident Prevention & Response

Lead and support incident and near‑miss investigations; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Analyze safety trends and develop training or procedural updates to reduce risk.
Coordinate with onsite medics and assist with incident case management.

Subcontractor & Project Team Support

Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with pre‑construction safety plans.
Review and approve subcontractor safety plans.
Spend significant time in the field observing work and coaching crews.
Guide teams in developing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and task‑specific plans.

Documentation & Reporting

Submit accurate and timely project safety reports.
Maintain daily and weekly documentation through Procore or other approved systems.
Review training programs and recommend updates.
Keep all safety‑related records organized and accessible.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
High level of attention to detail with excellent documentation practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, and safety‑related software.
Ability to work effectively across all departments and with subcontractors.
Comfortable working in varying field conditions, including extreme weather.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and perform basic physical tasks

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Safety Management, EHS Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience/training combined with 3–5 years of construction safety experience or multiple years of construction experience demonstrating strong safety knowledge.
Proven knowledge of governmental EHS standards, rules, and regulations and the ability to apply them to construction projects.
Strong working knowledge of safe work practices and experience conducting accident and incident investigations (highly desired).

MUST HAVE:

Valid driver’s license.
Clean driving record.
Able to pass drug screen.

CERTIFICATIONS:

10/30 Hour OSHA
OSHA 500 trainer, desired but not required
MSHA (surface), desired but not required
First Aid/ CPR
Professional Certifications from NSC or BCSP or ASSP
