ADJUNCT NURSING FACULTY MEMBER - CLINICAL NURSING INSTRUCTOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Adjunct Clinical Nursing Faculty member is responsible for supervising and instructing nursing students in clinical settings. This role focuses on hands-on learning and ensuring students develop essential clinical skills while maintaining patient safety and adhering to professional nursing standards. The adjunct clinical nursing instructor supervises all clinical activities of an assigned group of students at on and off-campus clinical experiences in accordance with the course description and syllabus established by the faculty.

REPORTS TO:

The Undergraduate Program Coordinator and/or Associate Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordinates assignments and communicates with lead full-time course faculty members for the course/student level to which they are assigned;
Guide students in applying nursing concepts in real-world clinical environments;
Ensure adherence to best practices, patient safety, and ethical nursing care;
Provide direct supervision and timely, constructive feedback during clinical rotations;
Knowledge and ability to use medical equipment (e.g. IV pumps, monitors, oxygen delivery systems, etc);
Attend mandatory on-campus orientation at least annually;
Knowledge of nursing concepts, terminology and techniques;
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail;
Serve as a role model of professionalism to help build the professional deportment expected by RSU nursing students;
Assist students to identify signs of patient health deterioration;
Foster student development of critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills;
Provide timely, accurate communication with assigned students prior to the start of the rotation and throughout;
Maintain accurate records of student progress, paperwork and competencies;
Prepare student assignments, grade clinical paperwork and evaluate performance of assigned students in clinical rotations;
Develop and maintain professional relations with students, employees of nursing schools and clinical partners;
Collaborate with clinical partners and facilitate post conferences in clinical settings;
Assist full-time faculty with on-campus laboratory and simulations, optionally and as needed;
Perform other duties as assigned.

COLLABORATION & COMPLIANCE:

Communicate early and often with Undergraduate Program Coordinator or Associate Dean for student behavior concerns, substandard performance or unsafe actions;
Work closely with full-time faculty to align clinical instruction with course objectives;
Ensure compliance with accreditation and institutional policies;
Participate in faculty meetings and professional development as needed;
Use RSU email address to communicate with students and full-time faculty;
Utilize Blackboard Ultra LMS for clinical paperwork, timesheet submission and professional development resources/submissions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing;
Hold a valid, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oklahoma;
Nursing faculty will report to the Associate Dean any complaints against their license, or any event that could impede re-licensure;
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical practice as a registered nurse (State Board requirement);
Current American Heart Association CPR certification (Basic Life Support);
Strong communication skills using written and spoken words
Expertise within the discipline

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master of Science Degree in Nursing;
Experience in a higher education setting;
Experience teaching in nursing program that leads to RN licensure;
Principles of adult teaching and learning.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Ability to stand for long periods, lift, move and carry clinical or laboratory equipment, assist patients with transfers;
Ability to assume new responsibilities and carry them out in an effective manner;
Ability to maintain safety and hygiene standards.

HOURS: Variable and may include early mornings, late evenings.
