Part-Time Golf Shop Staff

Oaks Country Club – Golf Shop Operations

Position Overview

The Part-Time Golf Shop Staff position is an important member-facing role within the Oaks Country Club golf operation. This individual assists the Golf Professional Staff with the daily operation of the Golf Shop while helping create an exceptional experience for our members and their guests.

While responsibilities include retail sales, answering phones, tee time assistance and maintaining the Golf Shop, the most important responsibility is service. We expect our staff to recognize members, anticipate their needs, know what is happening within the golf operation and Club, and take ownership of providing assistance from beginning to end.

The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, organized and comfortable interacting with members of all ages. Golf knowledge is helpful, but a genuine desire to serve others, learn and contribute to a team is most important.

Essential ResponsibilitiesMember & Guest Service

Provide a warm, sincere and prompt greeting to every member and guest entering the Golf Shop.
Learn and use member names whenever possible and develop an understanding of their preferences and needs.
Ask questions, listen and take the initiative to assist rather than waiting to be asked.
Anticipate member and guest needs and look for opportunities to exceed expectations.
Personally assist members in finding merchandise, information or another area of the Club rather than simply pointing them in the right direction.
Provide a warm and genuine farewell and thank members and guests for spending their time at the Club.
Take ownership of member questions, requests and concerns. If you do not know the answer, find someone who does and make sure the member receives the assistance they need.

Golf Shop Operations

Assist members and guests with tee times, tournament registrations, event information and general golf-related questions.
Answer Golf Shop telephone calls promptly, professionally and courteously.
Assist with checking players in for daily play, tournaments and Club events.
Process Golf Shop transactions accurately through the Club's point-of-sale system.
Assist with merchandise sales, including apparel, equipment, accessories and special orders.
Receive, organize, fold, hang and display merchandise as directed by the Professional Staff.
Maintain clean, organized and attractive merchandise displays throughout the day.
Assist with inventory counts, tagging merchandise and other retail-related responsibilities.
Communicate regularly with the Professional Staff and Outside Golf Services Team to help provide a seamless golf experience.
Assist the Professional Staff with tournament and event preparation as needed.

Know the Operation

Our Golf Shop staff should be a reliable source of information for our members and guests.

Stay informed about upcoming golf tournaments, leagues, junior golf, clinics, lessons, fittings and other golf activities.
Understand daily course information including starting times, practice facility availability, cart rules and other relevant conditions.
Maintain a working knowledge of important Club events and activities outside of golf so members can be directed appropriately.
When unsure of an answer, take responsibility for finding the correct information rather than guessing or simply saying, "I don't know."

Maintain Our Standards

Every area visible to a member or guest should be considered part of the experience.

Maintain a professional appearance and follow all Golf Shop uniform and dress standards.
Keep the Golf Shop, counter, displays, work areas and other member-facing spaces clean and organized.
Regularly straighten merchandise and return misplaced items throughout the shift.
Follow established operational procedures and checklists consistently.
Pay attention to details and address things that are out of place rather than assuming someone else will handle them.
Treat the Club, its facilities and merchandise with pride and care.

Be a Great Teammate

Arrive on time, prepared and ready to contribute.
Communicate clearly with Golf Professionals, fellow Golf Shop staff and the Outside Golf Services Team.
Look for opportunities to help teammates without waiting to be asked.
Understand that serving members sometimes requires stepping outside of your normal responsibilities.
Speak positively and professionally about the Club, our members and fellow employees.
Bring energy, effort and a positive attitude to every shift.
Help leave the operation better prepared for the next shift than you found it.

Service Expectations

We expect every member of our Golf Operations Team to demonstrate three qualities in everything they do:

Appearance – Take pride in yourself, the Golf Shop and the areas in which you work.

Consistency – Do the right things every time, not just when it is convenient. Details matter.

Effort – Give your best effort, hustle when necessary and make the extra effort to take care of members and support your teammates.

Our goal is simple: warmly welcome our members and guests, anticipate and exceed their expectations, and send them away with a sincere and positive farewell.

Qualifications

Friendly, outgoing and comfortable interacting with members and guests.
Strong customer-service mindset and willingness to take initiative.
Dependable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Strong communication and basic organizational skills.
Ability to learn point-of-sale, tee sheet and other Golf Shop systems.
Basic knowledge of golf preferred, but not required for the right candidate.
Previous retail, hospitality, golf course or customer-service experience is helpful but not required.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, afternoons, weekends and holidays as needed.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Part-Time Golf Shop Staff member is someone our members enjoy seeing when they walk through the door. They know members by name, know what is happening at the Club, notice the small details, take ownership when someone needs help and make the Professional Staff better by reliably handling the everyday responsibilities of the Golf Shop.

This position is more than working behind a counter. You are a host, a teammate and a representative of the Oaks Country Club golf experience.

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
