Job Description:Refuse Equipment Welder / Fabricator
Dickson Equipment | Tulsa, OK | Full-Time | On-Site
PAY: $28-$38 per hour, DOE
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1988, Dickson Equipment is a well-established dealer and full-service shop specializing in solid waste equipment. We sell, install, and service refuse collection bodies (New Way, Curbtender), rolloff and hooklift hoists (Galfab, Stellar Industries), Brush Hawg brush grapples, and all major brands of solid waste equipment. We also refurbish used refuse trucks in our shop.
We are located at 5700 W 55th St in Tulsa, OK — a well-equipped shop with a team that takes the work seriously.
Nearly 40 years in business. Not a startup. Not a revolving door.
THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Refuse Equipment Welder/Fabricator to repair, rebuild, and fabricate components for solid waste vehicles and equipment in our shop. This is hands-on work for someone who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and can solve structural problems through welding and fabrication.
You'll work on refuse collection bodies, packer mechanisms, tailgates, hoppers, rolloff hoists, hooklifts, containers, and related equipment. Every day brings something different—from repairing cracked structural members and worn packer components to fabricating replacement parts and reinforcing high-stress areas. If you enjoy challenging fabrication work instead of repetitive production welding, this is worth a conversation.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Perform MIG and flux-core welding on steel refuse equipment and heavy truck bodies
- Repair cracked frames, packer bodies, hoppers, tailgates, floors, sidewalls, and structural components
- Fabricate replacement parts, brackets, gussets, wear plates, and reinforcements when OEM parts are unavailable or impractical
- Cut, fit, grind, and assemble steel components using shop fabrication equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and repair instructions
- Remove and replace worn or damaged structural components
- Assist with complete refurbishments of used refuse trucks prior to resale
- Work closely with technicians and the service manager to determine the best repair approach
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORRequired:
- Demonstrated experience welding and fabricating heavy steel structures
- Proficiency with MIG welding; flux-core experience preferred
- Ability to fabricate parts from raw material with minimal supervision
- Experience operating cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, ironworkers, and other fabrication equipment
- Ability to read tape measures, fabrication drawings, and blueprints
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy materials
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:
- Experience repairing refuse trucks, dump trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, or vocational truck bodies
- Experience with New Way, Curbtender, Galfab, Stellar Industries, or similar equipment
- Familiarity with hydraulic cylinders and mechanical assemblies during disassembly and reassembly
- CDL or ability to obtain one (helpful for moving trucks in the shop yard)
- AWS welding certification (not required, but valued)
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience
- Health insurance
- Paid time off and holidays
- Stable, year-round work with minimal seasonal slowdown
- Opportunity to work on specialized heavy equipment rather than repetitive production welding
- Modern fabrication equipment and a well-equipped shop
- A shop environment where skilled fabricators are respected and compensated accordingly
