Full Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Social Work from a program approved by the Council on Social Work Education.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have or be eligible for licensure as graduate social worker as issued by the Alabama Board of Social Work. Eligible employees must obtain licensure within one year of appointment date in order to maintain employment.

KIND OF WORK:

Provide direct treatment and social work services as privileged or with supervision for seriously and chronically mentally ill adults.

Perform psychosocial assessments/social histories for hospitalized seriously and chronically mentally ill adults.

Contribute to the development, revision and monitoring of individualized treatment plans for hospitalized seriously mentally ill adult patients.

Perform post hospitalization planning and implementation for hospitalized seriously and chronically mentally ill adults.

Conduct therapeutic group and individual therapy sessions with mentally ill adults and provides casework in accordance with established guidelines and appropriate protocol.

Communicate with CMHC staff, family, court system and significant others in regard to patients.

Demonstrate professional growth and clinical competency by attending/participating in discipline meetings, supervisory/consultations and mandatory in-service programs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to read and comprehend documents such as social histories, psychological assessments, data, court orders etc.

Ability to make clinical assessments.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of clinical and crisis interventions. General knowledge of community resources for the mentally ill.

Ability to keep accurate records and write reports. Ability to interact with other professionals in a courteous, professional manner.
