Full Job Description

Position Title: Client Accounting Specialist
Department: Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS)
Reports To: CAAS Department Head
Location: Auburn, AL
Employment Type: Full-time, Primarily Onsite with Flexible Work-From-Home As Needed

Position Overview:

The Client Accounting Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the firm’s tax, audit, and advisory teams by delivering accurate, timely, and organized bookkeeping (client accounting & advisory) services to our clients. This role involves handling payroll tax filings, financial preparation & reporting, and client accounting software setup and training. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple client accounts efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and reconcile client-maintained books for accuracy and completeness.
Prepare accurate financial statements for clients in various industries.
Perform transaction coding/review and routine bookkeeping duties for multiple client accounts.
Prepare sales and use tax returns and ensure timely filing.
Prepare and file W-2s, 1099s, and related year-end forms.
Set up and provide client training for accounting software (primarily QuickBooks).
Assist clients with self-prepared payroll and tax filings, offering guidance as needed.
Handle special client tasks such as unclaimed property filings, business license renewals, etc.

Required Qualifications:

2+ years of bookkeeping or related accounting experience (public accounting preferred).
Proficient in QuickBooks Online.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Ability to work in new AI software.
Understanding of payroll processing and tax compliance.
High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a public accounting firm or with multiple clients simultaneously (preferred but not required).
Experience with payroll platforms and filing systems (e.g., ADP, Gusto, Paychex).
Familiarity with tax filing software and portals.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Timely completion of assigned tasks and filings.
Accuracy and completeness of financial statements and tax forms.
Client and supervisor satisfaction with service delivery.
Successful onboarding and training of clients on accounting software.
Demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Work Environment:

This position is on-site, where success comes from working closely with teammates and building strong client relationships.
