Full Job Description

The Dispatcher is responsible for managing and monitoring all Assist-To-Transport driver activities. Answer telephone calls from our customers, the public, employees, while communicating changes, updates and instructions to drivers. The Dispatcher is also responsible to ensure all drivers accurately complete and turn in all paperwork including but not limited to DBR’s, DVIR’s. Also, responsible to ensure positive check-in and key collection occurs at the beginning and end of each shift. Must maintain the ability to drive a bus, as needed.

Specific Duties:

Responsible for dispatching all trips and returns throughout the terminal location.
Receive, schedule and intake appointments as they are called/emailed into the terminal.
Monitor, assist, respond to emails in a timely manner.
Enter daily return schedule.
Print schedules and text all drivers on scheduling routes, for the next day.
Ensure employees report to work, on time, as scheduled and complete and file paperwork.
Maintain, manage, and update driver schedules and ADR’s daily.
Report all concerns, violations, feedback or issues to the Operations Manager.
Assign substitute drivers as needed.
Answer heavy telephone volume and communicate on two-way radio.
Ensure employees perform the required daily vehicle inspection and buses are cleaned daily as required by law.
Assist maintenance in scheduling vehicles to report to the shop for maintenance.
Willing to cross-train to support Brandt Buses within the dispatcher role, as needed for coverage due to operational needs.
Must be able to be on call for emergencies and weekends as scheduling is required.
Performs other collateral duties as assigned by Operations Manager.
Must be computer proficient with software experience in mapping and routing, to include Microsoft Office Suites, with a focus on Word and Excel.
Capable of monitoring GPS systems and activities. Use this technology to review and adjust routes for efficiencies and relay route improvements to the Operations Manager.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:

Minimum qualifications: High school diploma, clerical skills, strong computer skills. Valid commercial license with passenger endorsement and school bus certificate a plus.

Familiarity with the laws, regulations and policies governing student transportation; ability to read a map, to coordinate and schedule bus routes in a logical manner; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with employees and our customers; good judgment, ability to make sound decisions; knowledge of computers, clerical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with duties. Familiar with the school district, school locations, general knowledge of the routes and stops, and field trip destinations.
Willingness to maintain a current CDL B with P and S endorsements.
