Payments and Account Services
Role Summary
Oversee day-to-day card services operations, analyzes portfolio performance, various electronic payments systems, Automated Clearing House (ACH) rules and regulations, ACH processing, and payment services, and works with management to develop and implement strategies for credit and debit payment products. Oversee all ITM functions, ACH, share draft, Bill Pay, and IRA. Focus areas include member experience, product development, profitability and revenue enhancement, trend analysis, data analytics, and strategic recommendations to ensure credit card products are competitive and profitable. Acts as primary Credit Union contact with debit and credit processors and other network providers related to card payment systems.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Effectively supervises and manages the department, ensuring optimal performance.
a. Holds your team accountable to achieving the credit union strategic objectives, measurements, and initiatives set by the board.
b. Establish annual department budget and monitor performance to budget through the year; establishes goals for departmental programs and initiates action to achieve established goals while holding your team accountable to the budget and goals.
c. Demonstrates effective objective goal setting, delegation, motivation, and communication. Conducts meetings as expected by culture and informs staff of policy and procedural changes. Discusses areas needing improvement and encourages employee suggestions and ideas.
d. Ensures staff are well-trained, effective, and optimally used. Identifies training needs and develops appropriate training plans. Conducts training and cross-trains as appropriate. Holds teams accountable for errors, findings, and results of audits and exams.
e. Ensures staffing levels are adequate, hiring right, controlling staff turnover, developing a replacement for your position, coaches and develops your team to achieve expected performance results.
f. Conducts performance appraisals as required. Establishes goals with each employee. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.
g. Ensures the credit union follows all departmental regulations, develops procedural changes as compliance requires or new programs demand.
h. Analyzes departmental data reports for any correction action.
i. Supports, coaches, and lives the culture of “5 Choices”.
j. Assists and supports staff as needed.
k. Performs special operations and manages special projects as assigned.
l. Performs miscellaneous administrative tasks.
2. Assumes responsibility for BSA compliance by:
a. Remains knowledgeable about BSA laws, policies, and procedures.
b. Follows all BSA policies and procedures.
c. Monitor transactions when assisting members and non-members for BSA violations and/or suspicious activity.
d. Report all BSA violations by completing an Incident Report.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Two to Five years of similar or related experience in credit union/banking, such as credit/debit card disputes, ACH, EFT, etc. Management experience preferred.
Education / Certifications / Licenses
A high school degree or GED is required.
Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

REPETITIVE MOTION: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions and can deal with multiple variables.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to compute discount, interest, profit, and loss; commission markup and selling price; and ratio, proportion, and percentage. Able to perform very simple algebra.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ability to prepare business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Ability to conduct training, communicate at panel discussions, and make professional presentations.
