Company: Fast Growing Trees
Location: Tyler, TX (100% On-site)
Reports To: General Manager, Fulfillment & Nursery Operations
Position Overview
Fast Growing Trees is seeking a high-energy, execution-focused Assistant General Manager (AGM) to serve as the heartbeat of our new Tyler, TX facility. As the hands-on, day-to-day operational leader, you will be responsible for synchronizing all on-site activities across inbound logistics, e-commerce fulfillment, and nursery (horticultural) management.
You will directly manage a team of department Leads, ensuring that safety, plant health, order accuracy, and shipping deadlines are met daily. This is a 100% on-site role that requires a leader who loves dynamic, hands-on execution, solving real-time problems, and building a high-performing, collaborative team culture from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities Daily Operations & Execution
- Cross-Department Oversight: Own the day-to-day execution of all facility departments, including Inbound/Receiving, Inventory Control, Nursery/Plant Care, Pick/Pack, and Shipping.
- Labor & Resource Planning: Manage daily staffing levels, shifting labor dynamically between the nursery and fulfillment teams to meet fluctuating order volumes and operational priorities.
- Performance Metrics: Hold the team accountable to daily Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) spanning safety, quality (plant health and order accuracy), throughput, and cost.
- Problem Solving: Serve as the first line of escalation for daily operational bottlenecks, equipment issues, or inventory discrepancies.
People Leadership & Development
- Team Management: Directly lead, coach, and mentor a team of department Leads, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Onboarding & Training: Lead the hands-on training and upskilling of frontline associates, ensuring standardized workflows are followed correctly.
- Employee Relations: Maintain a visible, positive presence across the facility, promoting safety compliance, open communication, and high team morale.
Quality & Nursery Care
- Plant Health Standards: Partner with the nursery leads to ensure proper irrigation, fertilization, and climate care protocols are strictly maintained so that customers receive premium-quality plants.
- Inventory Accuracy: Oversee regular cycle counts and inventory audits across both live plant stock and fulfillment packaging materials.
GM Partnership & Continuous Improvement
- Strategic Alignment: Partner closely with the General Manager to translate high-level site launch and growth goals into daily, actionable plans.
- Process Optimization: Identify operational inefficiencies and implement workflow improvements to enhance facility organization and reduce waste.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of operations leadership experience in e-commerce fulfillment, distribution, manufacturing, agriculture, or a related high-volume environment.
- Leadership: At least 2–3 years of experience directly managing team leads or frontline personnel, with a proven track record of developing talent.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in e-commerce logistics (pick/pack/ship) and/or horticulture, agriculture, or nursery operations is highly preferred.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-style facility launch environment. Comfortable balancing the structured world of logistics with the variable world of live plants.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly delegate tasks, motivate a diverse workforce, and provide concise operational updates to the GM.
- Physical/Schedule Requirements: Ability to remain active and moving throughout the facility for extended periods; comfortable working in outdoor or greenhouse environments as required by nursery operations.
What We Are Looking For
- A "Doer" Who Leads from the Front: You don't just sit in an office; you prefer a hands-on approach, working directly alongside your team to audit processes and remove roadblocks.
- A Master of Logistics & Labor: You know how to balance operational metrics but excel at balancing physical labor across competing priorities in real-time.
- A Team Champion: You take pride in watching your leads grow into strong facility managers.
