Production Manufacturing Technician

Position Summary
The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for supporting the complete fiberglass mat manufacturing process, from converting raw materials into mat fibers through finishing, packaging, quality verification, and shipment preparation. These positions perform a variety of production, quality, maintenance, material handling, and administrative responsibilities while working within a team environment.
Team members are expected to maintain competency and certification across multiple work areas through rotation and cross-training. These roles contribute to maximizing operational efficiency, maintaining product quality, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring a safe and clean work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Operate production equipment used in the manufacture and finishing of fiberglass mat products.
- Perform process operations associated with raw material handling, fiber formation, binder application, mat production, roll-up, packaging, and shipment preparation.
- Operate and monitor binder mixing and delivery systems.
- Produce and maintain continuous mat strands according to specifications.
- Conduct startup, shutdown, changeover, and setup activities as required.
- Monitor production processes and make adjustments to maintain quality and throughput targets.
- Support scheduling, planning, and coordination activities within the department.
- Work collaboratively to maximize production efficiencies and minimize process interruptions.
Quality Assurance and Testing
- Perform quality inspections throughout the manufacturing process.
- Visually inspect products for defects, including dirt, tears, pullback, foreign material, and other non-conformances.
- Remove or correct defects according to customer and quality specifications.
- Obtain product samples and perform physical property testing, including but not limited to tensile strength, weight, dimensions, LOI, cure, peel strength, and other required tests.
- Conduct audits, process checks, and equipment calibrations.
- Review production and quality data to identify trends and contributing factors affecting quality and efficiency.
- Place questionable materials on hold and properly manage scrap materials.
Material Handling and Inventory Control
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform required vehicle inspections and complete associated documentation.
- Check fluid levels and equipment condition and replenish fluids as needed.
- Inventory, procure, transport, and load raw materials, packaging materials, supplies, and production components.
- Handle and dispose of departmental waste, scrap materials, and recyclable products.
- Operate balers, compactors, shuttles, conveyors, stretch wrappers, hoists, and related equipment as required.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform minor maintenance and preventive maintenance activities on production equipment.
- Replace or adjust equipment components such as slitters, blades, filters, hoses, pull wheels, thermocouples, brushes, bushings, and related accessories.
- Diagnose operating issues and take corrective action within the scope of the position.
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment and product quality concerns.
- Participate in improvement initiatives, developmental projects, and problem-solving activities.
- Support emergency procedures during equipment failures, power interruptions, startups, shutdowns, and operational upsets.
Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete production, quality, maintenance, and safety documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain audit records, test results, SPC charts, equipment settings, inspection logs, inventory records, and related reports.
- Utilize computer systems for data entry, communication, production monitoring, reporting, and process analysis.
- Maintain traceability and production records in accordance with company requirements.
Packaging and Finishing Operations
- Assemble cartons and packaging materials.
- Cut and prepare cores and tubing for finished product packaging.
- Prepare, print, and maintain product identification and traceability information.
- Operate tube cutting, sleeve cutting, and printing equipment.
- Maintain required printing logs and production records.
- Prepare products for wrapping, packaging, storage, and shipment.
Housekeeping and Safety
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of production areas, warehouses, offices, and common areas.
- Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, waste removal, and replenishing supplies.
- Prepare surfaces and apply paint or protective coatings as needed.
- Participate in plant safety, housekeeping, and environmental programs.
- Follow all safety rules, operating procedures, and quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist and support team members across multiple work areas as needed.
- Maintain qualifications through cross-training and job rotation.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications
- Manufacturing, production, or industrial experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment or willingness to obtain certification.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and report completion.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to perform physical work in a manufacturing environment.
Working Conditions
- Industrial manufacturing environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching.
- Exposure to heat, noise, moving machinery, and industrial materials.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Pay: $22.65 - $30.00 per hour
