The Role – Overview
The role oversees the Engineering for the Hotel, Private Residences and commercial areas of the property. Successful candidates will have solid project management skills, a strong work/ethic, adaptability, flexibility and leadership skills. The Director of Engineering provide a high level of property maintenance, including maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant with particular attention toward safety, security and asset protection and is responsible to plan, organize, direct and control the work of the Engineering Team Members in the Engineering Division, Contractor and Vendors. Activities include providing the technical services, building maintenance systems, and overall administration of operations to provide an exceptional Guest Experience at the highest standard of quality.
Key Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Establish and provide assistance on adherence to policies and procedures (with standards, benchmark, best practices)
Planning and scheduling of renovations, rectifications, alterations and new projects
Review construction & design drawings to ensure future maintenance activities are not compromised
Monitor and implement systems to analyze and proactively manage energy consumption to reduce energy use and reduce the carbon footprint of the property.
Effectively implements methods and strategies for compliance with Four Seasons Corporate Social Responsibility policy ESG and local codes.
Ensure all systems are regularly tested as required by local codes / AHJ by certified personnel.
Partner with Director of Security and Crisis Management Team to complete regular drills / evacuations.
Actively participates in hotels Chemical Safety / MDS / HACCP programs. Ensures the building / property complies with all government codes and regulations and keeps all applicable licenses and certificates of operation current and up to date.
Coordinate and maintain a full Perfect Room, Corridor and Outlets Program managed to ensure all areas are continually maintained with a minimum of one complete turn of property annually.
Assists General Manager / Resort Manager to oversee the Fire / Life Safety programs and risk management. Encourage proactive risk reporting, assessment, and mitigation.
Establish department operating budget for the submission to management covering costs of heat, light and power and maintenance and repairs.
Prepare requisitions for purchase and work orders and liaise effectively with the Director of Finance and Director of Purchasing.
Communicate maintenance information and problems to the General Manager and Hotel Manager on a daily basis.
Ensure proper execution of work order/request system and that items are followed up on when necessary.
Ensure that meter readings are taken daily on heat, light and review information to evaluate consumption.
Ensure all personnel under the Director of Engineering are exposed to hotel internal and external training on an on-going basis.
Lead the modernization of equipment, conduct regular audits of efficiency and Execute property Capital Expenditure plan in collaboration with property and Owners representatives
Present capex plan at HOA Board meetings, and advocate for necessary operational investments
Education
Higher education or equivalent experience
Trade school in mechanics, refrigeration etc.
CEOE – Certified Engineering Operations Executive from the Hotel and motel Hospitality Association, Building Owners Management Institution (BOMI) designation, Real Property Administrator (RPA), Facility Management Administrator (FMA) or Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA)
Experience:
Skills and Abilities:
Requires a working technical knowledge of general building maintenance.
Working knowledge is generally learned on-the-Job or through a series of professional certifications.
Requires knowledge of blue prints, wiring diagrams and hydraulics.
Ability to read and speak and write English.
Ability to administer projects and present effectively in meetings
Excellent communication skills-verbal and written. · Excellent administrative and organizational skills. ·
Computer literacy at high level to include Microsoft Windows environment, Excel, Word, Access, etc.
Ability to make sound business recommendations or decisions on assigned responsibilities. ·
A high degree of analytic ability and inductive thinking.
