Full Job Description

Senior In-House Counsel-Real Estate & Employment Law California

Who We Are:
We operate a fast-growing portfolio of dental practices and income-producing real estate across Southern California. This is a high-performance environment where legal issues are handled decisively, not reactively.

The Role (Read Carefully):
We are not looking for someone to “grow into” this role.

We are hiring a seasoned, aggressive, and highly autonomous In-House Attorney who can take full ownership of our legal function related to real estate and employment law — without hand-holding, without delays, and without excuses.

You will be expected to identify issues before they arise, act quickly, and protect the business at all costs within the law.

If you need constant direction, this is not the role for you.

Core Responsibilities:

Real Estate (Primary Focus):
- Independently handle all tenant-related legal matters end-to-end
- Draft, serve, and enforce all notices (3-day, 30/60-day, compliance, etc.)
- Execute and manage unlawful detainer (eviction) proceedings with speed and precision
- Strategically implement rent increases in compliance with California and local rent control laws
- Draft, revise, and aggressively negotiate leases (residential & commercial)
- Ensure airtight compliance while maximizing landlord position and leverage

Employment & Labor Law (Critical Secondary Focus):
- Act as the first and final line of defense on all employment matters
- Advise on terminations, disciplinary actions, and high-risk employee situations
- Ensure strict compliance with California wage & hour laws
- Proactively prevent, manage, and defend against employee claims and disputes
- Build and enforce policies that protect ownership and minimize liability, not just “check boxes”

Risk Control & Strategy:
- Identify vulnerabilities before they become problems
- Develop legal strategies that are proactive, not reactive
- Minimize reliance on outside counsel — you are the quarterback
- Step in immediately when issues arise and take control

Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- Active member of the California State Bar
- 5+ years minimum hands-on experience in:
- California landlord-tenant law (including evictions/unlawful detainers)
- California employment/labor law
- Proven track record of independently handling legal matters from start to finish
- Strong courtroom, negotiation, and enforcement mindset
- Ability to operate with urgency, authority, and zero supervision
