About us

America Tax Group is a nationwide IRS and state tax-resolution firm based in Westwood. We represent individuals and businesses who are behind on their taxes — people facing liens, levies, wage garnishments, payroll tax exposure, and years of unfiled returns. Our clients come to us at the worst point of a bad situation, and our job is to get them out of it. We are small enough that your work is visible and your judgment matters, and busy enough that you will see the full range of collection and controversy work.

The role

You will own resolution cases end to end — from transcript analysis and financial workup through the resolution the client actually lives with. You'll be the attorney of record on Form 2848, the person who decides the strategy, and the signature on the case package that goes out the door. You'll work alongside enrolled agents, case managers, and a client coordinator who handle the document chase and the administrative lift, so your time goes to analysis, negotiation, and advocacy.

What you'll do

Represent clients before IRS Collections, Appeals, and state taxing authorities (FTB, EDD, CDTFA, and out-of-state equivalents)
Analyze account and wage-and-income transcripts; build CSED and reasonable collection potential analyses
Prepare and negotiate Offers in Compromise, installment agreements, partial-pay IAs, and Currently Not Collectible status
Handle collection defense — bank levy releases, wage garnishment releases, lien withdrawal, subordination, and discharge
File and argue Collection Due Process and equivalent hearing requests; pursue appeals where warranted
Handle penalty abatement (first-time abate and reasonable cause), innocent spouse relief, Trust Fund Recovery Penalty defense, payroll/941 cases, and audit reconsideration
Review and sign case strategy packages prepared by the resolution team
Set expectations directly with clients — what the outcome will likely be, what it will cost, and what they have to do

What you need

J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing (California preferred; any U.S. jurisdiction considered)
3+ years of hands-on federal tax controversy or tax resolution experience
Working command of the Internal Revenue Manual, Circular 230, collection financial standards, and Forms 433-A/433-B, 433-A (OIC), 656, 843, 9465, 12153, and 2848
Direct experience negotiating with IRS Revenue Officers and ACS
Clear, plain-English writing — our clients are not tax people
Comfort carrying a real caseload and moving files without being chased

Nice to have

LL.M. in Taxation
CPA or EA credential in addition to the J.D.
Prior experience at a tax resolution or tax controversy firm
California state tax agency experience (FTB, EDD, CDTFA)
Conversational Spanish

What success looks like in year one

You are running your own book of resolution cases with minimal supervision, closing offers and agreements that hold, and your case packages go out without rework. Clients ask for you by name.

Compensation and benefits

$125,000 – $160,000 annually, depending on experience and credentials.

Full-time, on-site at our Wilshire Blvd office in Westwood.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
