Primary Grades Teacher and Home Coordinator
La Vida Charter School desires to hire a full or part time, enthusiastic Teacher for grades K-3 and have a foundation in early childhood education. Candidates should possess a multiple subject credential and have an area of specialty. Ideal candidates will have knowledge and experience with Waldorf Education. This individual ought to be a creative, fun loving, organized, deeply committed to understanding and engaging each student, as well as being computer proficient, efficient with paperwork, willing to collaborate with parents and faculty and embrace the school’s charter.
La Vida Charter School offers an innovative hybrid program to about 80 students that is child centered, strengths based and collaborative, working closely with parents and students. Integrated curriculum is available to all its K-12 independent study students. Optional onsite, multi-grade enhancement classes support home study students with a Rudolf Steiner inspired main lesson, and specialty classes, including; visual & performing arts, world languages, field science with sustainable practices. The school is located on the beautiful and historic 5000 acre Ridgewood Ranch, Home of Seabiscuit, on Highway 101, between Ukiah and Willits California.
Through the course of a week, the requirements of this job would be to be the anchor teacher on Monday and Tuesday, teaching main lesson, math and a specialty classes to a small group in grades 1,2 & 3 (Math would be broken up). Specialty classes with older students as well. On Wednesday and Thursday are the days to prepare, work and meet with the K-3 home programs with one or both days from home. Friday would have a Kinder play group for two and a half hours Maintaining a positive, dynamic environment is highly valued. Meeting with your students & parents individually, reviewing and assigning their home study programs, along with other special projects fill the rest of the week.
- Possessing a California Teaching Credential, a Multiple Subject K-12 enclosed classroom is preferred. Intern Credential is acceptable.
- Ability to bring a variety of interests to the school. Being comfortable in nature is important.
- Demonstrated success in creating a differentiated and collaborative classroom.
- Experience with Waldorf Education is desired and Willingness to further training in Waldorf Methods is required.
- Experience with and a positive outlook on Independent Study is desired.

- 25 days in-service and teacher workdays that are non-teaching days.
Full time, or three-quarter time. Salary range $51,051 - $55,108 for 187 days. Health Expense Benefit which can pay for standard health insurance and CalSTRS Retirement Benefit. Work starts the week of Aug 10 for computer systems training. Full faculty in-service the week of Aug 17. Parent-student orientation week of Aug. 24 with the first day of school Aug. 28.
