Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Drafter / Design Technician to join our engineering and fabrication team. This position is responsible for creating detailed fabrication drawings, material take-offs, and production documentation for custom industrial equipment. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with engineers, shop personnel, and customers to bring projects from concept to completion.

Responsibilities

Create detailed 2D and 3D fabrication drawings using CAD software.
Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and material take-offs.
Develop drawings for steel, stainless steel, and thermoplastic fabrication.
Work closely with engineering and production to ensure designs are manufacturable.
Prepare files for CNC cutting equipment and butt fusion welding operations.
Revise drawings based on customer requirements and shop feedback.
Assist with purchasing by identifying materials and components.
Support estimating and project management as needed.
Maintain organized drawing files and engineering documentation.
Participate in continuous improvement of design and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

Experience with mechanical drafting or design.
Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Knowledge of fabrication processes, machining, or manufacturing.
Experience working with steel, stainless steel, and/or plastics is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is a plus.
Experience preparing files for CNC equipment.
Familiarity with butt fusion welding or thermoplastic fabrication.
Knowledge of sheet metal and structural fabrication.
Experience with ERP or manufacturing software.
