Full Job Description

Are you a highly organized, trustworthy accounting professional with strong attention to detail and hands-on experience with QuickBooks Desktop? Do you enjoy taking ownership of multiple responsibilities and thrive in a growing, fast-paced company?

An established and growing company in the home improvement industry is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Junior Controller to work closely with company leadership and our CPA. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on and wants to play an important part in keeping the company’s financial and administrative operations organized and running smoothly.

The Junior Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting functions while also managing job costing, subcontractor compliance, licensing, insurance administration, and other financial and administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting

Manage daily accounting activities and maintain accurate financial records
Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
Review and reconcile bank, credit card, and other accounts
Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations as needed
Review vendor invoices for proper coding and approval
Monitor accounts receivables and assist with collections
Maintain organized and accurate accounting documentation
Work closely with the company’s CPA and provide requested schedules, reconciliations, and documentations
Manage the year-end 1099 process, including vendor information, W-9s, payment reconciliation, in coordination with the CPA

Job Costing

Maintain accurate job costing throughout the project lifecycle
Ensure labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other job-related costs are properly assigned to jobs
Review job costs against estimates and identify significant variances
Monitor job profitability and gross margins

Subcontractor & Vendor Compliance

Ensure current W-9s and certificates of insurance (COIs) are on file for all subcontractors before they perform work
Track COI expiration dates and obtain updated certificates as needed
Maintain accurate subcontractor compliance records
Follow up on missing or expired documentation and communicate compliance issues to management

Licenses, Insurance, and Business Compliance

Maintain organized records of licenses, permits, registrations, and certificates ensuring all are current
Track licensing requirements and renewal dates across all service areas and states where the company operates
Coordinate with company’s insurance agent to update commercial auto insurance when vehicles are purchased, leased, sold, or removed from service

Cash Flow & Internal Controls

Monitor daily and weekly cash flow
Monitor accounts receivable and outstanding customer balances
Monitor vendor obligations and upcoming payments
Help maintain strong accounting controls and accurate financial processes
Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures and reduce errors

Qualifications:

2-5 years of accounting or finance experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
Must have a strong working knowledge in all aspects of QuickBooks Desktop
Strong excel skills
Experience with W-9s, COIs, and subcontractor compliance preferred
Experience with 1099 preperation and vendor reporting preferred

Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
