Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join our AS9100-certified aerospace machine shop. This is a hands-on role focused on setting up, programming, and operating CNC turning centers to produce precision aerospace components from customer-supplied drawings. We are a build-to-print facility, and the ideal candidate can take a print, program the part using CAD/CAM software, set up the machine, and run production with minimal supervision. We are open to candidates at various experience levels — from mid-career machinists with solid setup and operational skills to senior-level programmers who can independently tackle complex, multi-axis turned parts. Compensation and responsibilities will be scaled to match the candidate’s demonstrated capabilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

CNC Lathe Setup & Operation

 Set up, operate, and run CNC turning centers (Doosan lathes with FANUC controls) to produce precision aerospace components to tight tolerances.

 Perform complete machine setups including work holding, tool loading, tool offsets, and first-piece verification.

 Read and interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings with full GD&T callouts per ASME Y14.5 in a build-to-print environment.

 Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies for a range of aerospace materials including aluminum alloys, stainless steel, Inconel, titanium, and other exotic alloys.

 Perform in-process inspection (IPC) using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and other standard metrology tools).

CAD/CAM Programming

 Program CNC turning operations using a modern, professional-grade CAD/CAM platform (e.g.,Fusion 360, Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Esprit, or equivalent).

 Create, verify, and optimize turning programs from customer-supplied drawings, including roughing, finishing, grooving, threading, and contouring operations.

 Post-process programs, verify G-code, and prove out first articles at the machine.

 Edit and optimize programs at the control as needed to improve cycle times, surface finish, and tool life.

Quality & Compliance

 Work within the company’s AS9100 Quality Management System, following documented

procedures and maintaining required quality records.

 Perform and document in-process inspection (IPC) at required operation steps per the job traveler.

 Support first article inspection (FAI) processes by providing accurate IPC data and flagging any dimensional or process concerns during production.

 Report nonconformances per established procedures.

 Maintain traceability of materials, tooling, and processes as required by aerospace customer specifications.

Continuous Improvement & Shop Contribution

 Proactively identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, improve setups, and minimize scrap.

 Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.

 Communicate effectively with the Operations Manager and team members regarding job status, issues, and material needs.

 Assist with machine maintenance, tooling inventory, and other shop duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

 Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes/turning centers in a precision machining environment.

 Proficiency programming CNC turning operations using a modern, professional-grade CAD/CAM platform (e.g., Fusion 360, Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Esprit, or equivalent).

 Strong working knowledge of FANUC CNC controls, including the ability to read, edit, and verify G code at the machine.

 Ability to read and interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

 Solid understanding of aerospace materials and their machining characteristics (aluminum, stainless, titanium, Inconel, etc.).

 Competent use of precision measuring instruments for in-process inspection (IPC).

 Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

 Experience working in an AS9100-certified or similarly regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.

 Direct experience on Doosan CNC lathes.

 Multi-axis turning experience (live tooling, Y-axis, sub-spindle).

 Familiarity with first article inspection (FAI) requirements per AS9102.

 Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and 5S methodology.

 Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives in a job shop or low-volume, high-mix production environment.

Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
