Tier 1 automotive supplier, located west of Ann Arbor, has immediate openings for Machine Repair/Maintenance Mechanics.
Job Summary:
Maintenance Technicians are responsible for, but not limited to, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing cold heading and cold forming machinery used in the production of fasteners and related metal components. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports efficient manufacturing operations through expert mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repair work.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Welding and fabrication of machine tools
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on cold heading machines, heat treat furnaces, IP machines, and thread rolling machines (e.g., Asahi-Sunca, Sakamura, National, Saspi, Tsugami).
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
- Rebuild and align critical machine components such as transfer mechanisms, punches, dies, feed systems, and cutoff units.
- Install, adjust, and replace machine parts to maintain optimal performance.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Conduct machine changeovers and assist production teams with setup optimization.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair records, and parts usage documentation.
- Collaborate with operators, engineers, and supervisors to identify root causes of equipment failures.
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and production standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machine reliability and uptime.
- Follow 5S principles to maintain a clean, organized, efficient working environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience repairing industrial machinery.
- Proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Skilled in machine alignment, rebuilding, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Ability to lift heavy components and work in a manufacturing environment.
- Welding, machining, or fabrication skills.
- Ability to make, modify, and/or repair machine components
- Must be self-disciplined, self-motivated, organized, and committed to continuous improvement.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training or apprenticeship is a plus.
- Knowledge of lubrication systems and coolant management.
- Previous experience in the cold heading or metal forming industry preferred
- Familiarity with TPM, 5S, or other maintenance improvement programs.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
- Comfortable working on the manufacturing shop floor.
- Must be able to continuously lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.
- Frequent climbing and kneeling.
- Occasional bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, crawling, reaching, and pushing/pulling.
Candidate must be willing to work all shifts and must be self-disciplined, self-motivated, organized and committed to continuous improvement. Overtime and schedule flexibility is a must.
