Full Job Description

Summary of Job:

The Competitive Swimming Director is responsible for administrating the total operation of the swim club program in accordance with local, state, and national guidelines. This includes program planning and daily management, age-group and senior level athletic development, oversight and development of assistant coaches, composition of daily, seasonal, and annual training programs, promotion of both competitive swimming and club core values, and mission statement. The Competitive Swimming Director must have a clear understanding of the role of the swim club in relationship to it being a part of the entire entity.

Job Specifications:

The Competitive Swimming Director should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field or demonstrated equivalent work experience. Extensive knowledge of competitive swimming, physics of swimming and stroke mechanics, dry land development, and knowledge of swimming rules for local, state, and national swimming organizations. Minimum of 2 years of personal competitive swimming experience. Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience. Experience to some extent in various swimming software and Microsoft Office. The Director must possess the ability to build genuine relationships with participants and maintain a welcoming and nurturing environment. The Director must have the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of participants, parents, club/facility employees, and volunteers, and the ability to do so within club/facility parameters. This person must have the skills, organization, and ability to effectively manage staff, volunteers, equipment, and resources of the club. Must complete any related club/facility certifications within 90 days of hire.

Essential Functions:

Develop, implement, lead, and supervise all swim programs for the competitive swimming club.
Serve as Head Coach to the swimming club, providing direct service at practices and meets.
Create a season outline containing practice schedules, meet schedules, workout goals, and important events for review and approval prior to implementation.
Prepare and monitor annual budgets for the swimming club.
Ensure swim practices are executed to meet the needs of all ages, levels and abilities of participants and modifications/corrections are provided so that they learn to the best of their ability.
Effectively design and plan a workout curriculum for all levels.
Provide constant feedback to participants to facilitate improvement.
Record and maintain attendance records.
Set up the facility and equipment and store the equipment upon completion of practices and swim meets.
Complete all administration duties related to the team.
Overall responsibility for the scheduling of assistant coaches. Ensuring that there are an appropriate number of coaches as dictated by registration.
Provide clear channels of communication for all subordinate staff
Evaluate assistant coaches as necessary.
Understand how to utilize all necessary equipment as related to the program.
Establish and maintain good communication with participants, parents, and supervisor. Develop and implement a team communication strategy which should include e-mail, team portion of website, registration staff and administrative personnel communication.
Seeks educational opportunities for self and other coaches through various organizations.
Stays up to date with the most current research on swimming and coaching.
Recruits all staff, volunteers, and participants related to the competitive swimming club. This includes recruiting in a method consistent with club standards.
Is safety conscious at all times during practices, swim meets, or other team functions. Acquires and maintains all necessary safety certifications including CPR, first aid, and a coaches’ safety curriculum.
Attends all organizational meetings for swim leagues and other groups that would affect the competitive swimming club.
Attends all swim club parents’ committee meetings.
Attends all swim club functions and represents the club at outside functions.
Responsible for timing, entries, officials, planning and development of swim meets.
Responsible for coordinating times for swim practices and swim meets with the facility director that will cause the least amount of conflict.
Responsible for all swim camps and clinics for the club.
Collaborate with various outside organizations to promote interest and increase participation within the club.
Plan and carry out public relations and marketing efforts to promote the club within the job scope.
