Full Job Description

Type: Freelance / Consultancy (Fully Remote)

Hours: Flexible – ideally ~20–40 hours per week

Proofed is an editing agency for content teams.

Our vision is to be the world’s leading editorial desk for businesses.

We work with fast-growing companies and S&P 100 / Fortune 100 clients. We provide a traditional editorial function for human-generated content as well as working at the forefront of AI-generated content editing – providing human-in-the-loop (HITL) quality control such as fact-checking, editing for tone of voice, and humanizing.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for meticulous, reliable freelance editors and proofreaders to join our global editing team, working on both human- and AI-generated content.

What You’ll Do

Human-generated content:

- Proofreading for grammar, spelling, and punctuation

- Editing for clarity, tone, and flow

- Applying client style guides

AI-generated content (HITL):

- Fact-checking

- Editing for clarity, tone of voice, flow, and brand alignment

- Humanizing for natural language

- Bias checking

What We’re Looking For

- Dependable and detail-oriented

- Grammar perfectionist

- Comfortable with deadlines and managing multiple projects

- Open to feedback, training, and collaboration

How You’ll Work

- Fully remote

- No fixed minimum or maximum hours

- Paid hourly or per project

Credentials & Eligibility

Required certifications (non-negotiable):

- Knowadays: Becoming A Proofreader (Distinction)

- Knowadays: Becoming An Editor (Distinction)

We guarantee a role for anyone holding both qualifications at Distinction level.

Additional experience may open access to clients with specific content types.

Location & Payment

- Freelance consultancy basis

- Paid monthly via Wise

- Must be located in an eligible country with a US double tax treaty

Proofed delivers editing at scale, working with hundreds of editors across multiple industries, document types, and clients. As we grew, we encountered two key challenges: inconsistent quality due to varied training backgrounds and high drop-off rates following traditional hiring processes.

To address this, we rebuilt our hiring and onboarding process. The Knowadays qualifications provide a shared baseline from day one, standardizing editorial skills, expectations, and quality assurance so every editor is aligned before working with clients.

More than 2,500 editors have come through the Knowadays-to-Proofed pathway. This approach allows us to deliver consistent, high-quality editing across a global team while offering editors a clear route into paid freelance work.
