Full Job Description

SAFETY OFFICER

Position Summary:

CURRENTLY HIRING FOR POSITIONS IN ASHBURN, MANASSAS, and STAFFORD, VA.

Experience with Data Center projects or monitoring plumbing and mechanical contracting work is preferred, but not required.

Safety Officers perform day-to-day duties of ensuring the safety of The Severn Group (“TSG”) projects through working with TSG personnel to achieve adherence to company and client safety policies as well as applicable federal/state/local workplace safety laws and regulations. This position supports company safety through work with TSG personnel (trade and Safety) in the field throughout the company’s projects in the DC/MD/VA region (new hires to this position may be eligible to receive a company vehicle and gas card).

Position Responsibilities:

Monitor company personnel and work with Safety and project leadership to maintain safety standards.

Conduct regular on-site inspections to identify hazards, and ensure adherence to company and project safety standards, as well as use of appropriate safety controls.

Provide training to company personnel in areas of PPE selection and usage, safe operation of equipment, hazard mitigation, and other topics related to project safety.

Conduct investigations into workplace incidents, identify underlying root causes and conditions, and collaborate with company personnel to institute corrective measures.

Work with Safety and other TSG personnel, along with project partners/clients, to contribute to development, implementation, and maintenance of safety standards that align with federal/state/local safety regulations, industry best practices, and project-specific safety concerns.

Generate and maintain documentation of inspections, incident investigations, trainings, and other records of safety measures/actions.

Work with Safety and project personnel to draft AHAs, PTPs, safety plans, and other routine safety documents.

Provide end-to-end safety coverage for assigned site and project.

Preferred Qualifications:

Required Certification (must have documentation): OSHA 30

Additional Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED, Fall Protection, MEWP (aerial/scissor lift), Forklift, Confined Space, Excavation/Trench, Rigging and Signaling, and certifications to train in any of these areas or others pertinent to worker and workplace safety

1-4 years' experience in Safety (preferable consideration given to candidates with experience in large-scale commercial construction projects in either safety or trade work capacity)

Strong familiarity with OSHA regulations, hazard mitigation measures, and risk management techniques

Experience leading safety trainings and incident investigations

Experience drafting AHAs, PTPs, and other routine safety documents

Excellent communication (oral & written) and organization skills

Ability to collaborate with personnel from a range of teams and company partners/clients in order to promote and maintain a working culture that prioritizes safety as a primary goal

High School Diploma or equivalent (preferable consideration given to candidates with additional advanced degrees)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
