Full Job Description

Job Description:

The Urban Planning Intern will work under the direction and training of the Urban Planning Manager to gain a more in-depth understanding of daily tasks and projects SRB manages. The internship requires knowledge of basic urban planning principles and will provide the opportunity for collaboration with in-office employees, private and municipal clients, and the public. The position is best suited for an individual graduating in the Spring of 2026, as the intention is to turn the internship into a full-time Planner I position upon completion of a planning degree.

SRB is an interdisciplinary firm, and the prospective intern will work with professionals in planning, engineering, GIS, and surveying. In urban planning, SRB acts as the City Planner for various municipalities, providing evaluation of applications and presentation of staff reports to elected officials. SRB works with private clients for due diligence on land-based issues, rezoning applications, and writing application packages for SPUDs and PUDs. SRB provides comprehensive/master planning services, as well as program management for municipal clients. Additionally, SRB provides grant writing services for federal, state, and local grants for transportation, safety, air quality, and alternative transportation projects.

Job Responsibilities:

· Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects

· Evaluates applications and prepares staff reports for presentation at Planning Commission and City Council meetings

· Assists staff at community meetings

· Researches fundings sources, writes grant applications

· Conducts basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management

· Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

· Basic understanding of urban planning principles

· Pursuing a degree in Regional and City Planning, or similar field

Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Strong research and analytical skills

· Ability to work independently

· Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

· Flexibility to work on a variety of planning projects

· Ability to attend evening meetings from time to time

· Familiarity with Microsoft Office

· Any experience with Adobe (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), ArcGIS Pro, or related software is a plus
