The Henneman Engineering Industrial Technology Group team supports clients through project management, process design, mechanical, electrical, chemical, controls, instrumentation, integration, and reliability engineering services.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Henneman Engineering Industrial Technology Group is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its Champaign, Illinois office. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys structural analysis, building design, project management, client collaboration, and seeing projects through every phase from proposal development through construction support.
This is not a role where you'll spend years designing one type of building. Engineers work in a fast-paced environment across commercial, multifamily, residential, healthcare, and industrial projects while collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team. The role is onsite in Champaign with primarily local client travel and minimal overnight travel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform structural analysis, engineering calculations, and design for commercial, healthcare, multifamily, residential, and industrial projects.
· Design structural systems utilizing wood, masonry, concrete, precast concrete, steel, and aluminum.
· Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
· Apply applicable building codes, safety regulations, and structural design standards.
· Develop structural details, calculations, specifications, and design documentation for assigned project work.
· Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination.
· Provide technical input and support for proposals and project development.
· Coordinate structural design with architects, contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
· Participate in client meetings and project coordination activities with support from senior engineering staff as needed.
· Provide construction support, field observations, and engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
· Evaluate existing structural systems and assist in developing practical engineering solutions.
· Review drawings, calculations, and other project documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
· Communicate project status, design considerations, and technical issues effectively with project team members.
· Continue developing technical expertise and the ability to independently manage increasingly complex engineering assignments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related engineering discipline.
· 2+ years of structural engineering experience.
· Experience performing structural analysis and engineering calculations.
· Experience with AutoCAD.
· Working knowledge of applicable building codes and structural design standards.
· Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
· Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
· Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as needed, primarily local and regional travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.
· Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
· Experience with RISA structural analysis suite.
· Experience with Revit.
· Experience with structural design in commercial, healthcare, multifamily, residential, or industrial projects.
· Experience coordinating with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
· Experience with construction administration, field observations, or existing building evaluations.
· Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
· Annual salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, $70,000-$95,000
· Benefits package includes paid holidays, vacation, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, and 401(k) program.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL
This position is based onsite at the Champaign, Illinois office. Engineers may travel to project sites for meetings, site investigations, construction support, and client coordination. Travel is primarily local or regional with minimal overnight travel expected.
