Job Overview

Angeles University, a private post-secondary institution offering healthcare programs, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Aid Advisor or Senior Financial Aid Advisor to join our Financial Aid team. The position provides financial aid counseling and support to prospective and current students and administers federal, state, institutional, and other financial aid programs.

Responsibilities include financial aid counseling, application processing, eligibility review, awarding, disbursement, reconciliation, compliance, and the return of funds, as applicable. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to quality student service.

The Senior Financial Aid Advisor may handle more complex financial aid matters and provide guidance to other Financial Aid staff based on experience and qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Counsel prospective and current students regarding FAFSA, California Dream Act Application (CADAA), financial aid eligibility, requirements, deadlines, awards, disbursements, and related matters.
Assist students with federal, state, and private loan applications and requirements.
Review financial aid applications, ISIRs, documents, and student records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Assist with awarding, processing, disbursement, reconciliation, and return of federal, state, institutional, and other financial aid funds.
Research and resolve student financial aid issues, discrepancies, and complex cases.
Respond professionally and timely to inquiries from students, staff, government agencies, and other parties.
Maintain accurate financial aid records, reports, files, and documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and University policies.
Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, accrediting requirements, institutional policies, and agency guidance.
Stay current on financial aid regulations and requirements through training, professional development, and agency updates.
Assist with financial aid forms, procedures, communications, catalog information, reports, audits, internal reviews, and special projects.
Provide guidance and support to other Financial Aid staff as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality and security of student and institutional information.
Perform other duties necessary to support an effective and compliant Financial Aid Office.

Experience / Qualifications

Experience in financial aid, higher education, student services, or a related field is preferred.
Additional experience and demonstrated financial aid knowledge may qualify a candidate for the Senior Financial Aid Advisor level.
Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, including Pell Grant, Direct Loans, FSEOG, Cal Grant, and other applicable programs.
Experience with FAFSA/ISIR processing, verification, awarding, disbursement, reconciliation, and compliance is preferred.
Cal Grant experience is preferred.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state financial aid regulations and institutional policies.
Completion of Fundamentals of Title IV Administration or equivalent U.S. Department of Education training is preferred.
Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial aid management systems; Campus Ivy/Portico experience is preferred.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse student population.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
Bachelor's degree in administration, business, education, or a related field is preferred.

Senior Financial Aid Advisor: Candidates should demonstrate advanced financial aid experience and knowledge and the ability to independently manage complex financial aid matters. Senior-level responsibilities may include troubleshooting processing issues, assisting with reconciliation and compliance activities, handling complex student cases, guiding Financial Aid staff, and supporting special projects. This is an advanced individual-contributor role.
