Job Summary
KUER is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Social Media Assistant for 19 hours a week to help grow and engage our audiences across digital platforms. This entry-level position is ideal for a student, recent graduate, or early-career professional interested in media, journalism, communications or digital marketing.
The Social Media Assistant will support the creation, scheduling and monitoring of content across social media channels, helping connect audiences with our news, programs and mission.

Responsibilities
Create and schedule social media posts for platforms including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube
Assist with promoting station news stories, shows and podcasts
Write engaging captions that reflect the station’s voice, values and editorial standards
Monitor social media channels for comments, messages and audience engagement opportunities
Capture photos and short-form video during show tapings, station events and community activities
Help coordinate visuals with the graphics team for social posts
Create vertical video and stories using tools such as Canva and Adobe Express
Track social media performance metrics and prepare analytics reports
Stay informed about social media trends and platform best practices
Assist with maintaining a consistent brand presence across digital channels
Support audience engagement efforts and special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
- Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
Department Specific Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; current college students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with major social media platforms and their best practices
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Enthusiasm for public media, journalism, community engagement, and storytelling
Basic photography and smartphone video skills
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
Passion for community-focused storytelling and audience engagement
Preferences
Coursework or experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, media studies or a related field
Experience managing personal, school, nonprofit or business social media accounts
Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar content creation tools
Familiarity with social media scheduling platforms such as Buffer or similar programs
