Job Summary/Basic Function

Department Overview

The Special Collections and University Archives department (SCUA) at Weber State University is seeking applications for a full-time Archives Processor. The Archives Processor provides high quality access and research services to the WSU campus and the greater Weber/Davis community by providing access to primary sources and collections. The Processor will consult with the leadership team for the SCUA department, working closely with colleagues responsible for Special Collections, University Archives, the Weber State Community, and Weber/Davis Communities as a whole.

Job Description

Under minimal supervision, performs highly skilled archives and special collections duties at the paraprofessional level. The Archives Processor provides high quality research services to the WSU campus and the greater Weber/Davis community by providing access to primary sources and collections. The Processor will improve the physical and intellectual control, access, and preservation of materials through collection organization and preservation, creating finding aids using DACS best practices, inputting data to various automated library databases, and working with the digitization lab to preserve analog materials. Processor will provide assistance with exhibit development, creation, and installation. Provide ongoing support for SCUA outreach through social media postings and advertising. Serve on a library team as a representative of the SCUA department.

In addition to the processing and research service duties, the Archives Processors serve as project managers for one of SCUA’s primary functional areas. This includes but is not limited to:

Oral History
- Project manager will provide access to the Stewart Library’s Oral History collection by organizing oral history interviews and overseeing transcription, edits, and publication processes.
Digital Initiatives Workflow (this posting is specifically for this role)
- Project manager is responsible for digitization lab management and overseeing the entire student hiring process (with input from student assigned supervisor), onboarding, training, progress reports, wage tracking, raises and TAS verification.
- Project Manager will work closely with the Digital Initiatives department and oversee digitization processes for primary sources, including metadata, digital collections, Special Collections digital collections (SCDC), and uploading collections into the digital content management system.
Acquisitions
- Project Manager will oversee, accept, organize, and process donations to the department, update the necessary databases, and integrate them with the collections.
Digital Initiatives
- Project Manager will work closely with the Digital Initiatives department and oversee digitization processes for primary sources, including metadata, digital collections and exhibits, and uploading collections into the digital content management system.

Required Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of related experience that includes research involving primary sources and/or equivalent
Experience working in a cultural heritage organization and/or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience processing archival, photograph and/or digital collections using best practices and standards
Project management experience

The annual salary for this position starts at $44,000 and may go up from there depending on candidate qualifications. The position comes with a generous benefits package.
