Job Summary
BBR Excavation, LLC. is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Excavation Lead Operator & Supervisor to assist in leading and manage all aspects of excavation, grading, and earthwork projects. The Excavation Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing crews, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, and coordinating closely with the operations manager. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on excavation experience, strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of site development best practices.
Responsibilities
Project Oversight & Execution:
- Direct and manage daily excavation operations, including grading, trenching, backfilling, and compaction.
- Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and specifications to ensure accurate project execution.
- Plan and coordinate work activities, schedules, and resource allocation (labor, heavy equipment, materials) to meet project deadlines. Call in for inspections and compaction tests as needed.
- Ensure all excavation work adheres to project specifications, quality standards, and engineered plans.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Supervise, motivate, and mentor excavation crews and heavy equipment operators, providing clear direction and fostering a productive work environment.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure all crew members follow safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Train and develop crew members on proper excavation techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
- Manage crew performance, address any issues, and conduct performance reviews as needed.
Safety & Compliance:
- Implement and enforce strict safety measures on all excavation sites, including trenching and shoring safety, utility locates, and spoil pile management.
- Maintain a safe working environment, identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and local ordinances related to excavation.
Coordination & Communication:
- Communicate effectively with operation manager, other trades, and clients.
- Provide regular updates on project status, progress, and any issues encountered.
- Coordinate with utility companies for mark-outs and line protection.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, and other project documentation.
Problem-Solving:
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-site challenges related to excavation, soil conditions, drainage, or equipment issues.
- Make timely and informed decisions to keep projects on track and within budget.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of verifiable experience in excavation and earthwork, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Extensive hands-on experience and expert knowledge in operating various heavy excavation equipment (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, loaders, skid steers).
- Strong understanding of grading techniques, soil types, compaction methods, and site utility installation.
- Proven ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, site plans, and specifications accurately.
- Strong leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality control.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to perform physical duties, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in various weather conditions.

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
