IT Support Specialist II

Position Summary

We are a Managed Service Provider (MSP) supporting multiple small business clients across a variety of industries. Our focus is delivering reliable, secure, and cost-effective IT solutions tailored to the unique needs of small to mid-sized organizations. We act as an outsourced IT department for our clients, managing their networks, systems, security, and day-to-day technical support to ensure their technology operates efficiently and supports their business goals. Travel to client sites is required, as this role requires regular onsite support, installations, troubleshooting, and direct interaction with client environments.

The IT Support Specialist II is responsible for providing advanced technical support and maintaining IT systems, network infrastructure, and end-user environments across multiple client environments. The primary clients supported are small business networks rather than large enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable designing, configuring, and maintaining small business network infrastructures independently. While most environments are not full-scale enterprise networks, enterprise-level experience is preferred.

This role requires hands-on experience with networking, system administration, hardware/software deployment, and infrastructure management. Extensive structured cabling is not required, but the candidate must understand networking fundamentals, basic cabling standards and be able to run an ethernet line and terminate the ends.

This Level II role encompasses Level I responsibilities. When advanced (Level II) work is not actively required, the technician is expected to assist with Level I support tickets and contribute to overall service desk operations. Additionally, this role includes mentoring, training, and advising Level I technicians to elevate team capability and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

End-User & Technical Support

Provide Tier II technical support for hardware, software, network, and system issues
Troubleshoot and resolve escalated service desk tickets in a timely manner
Support desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals
Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows/macOS)
Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies in Active Directory
Support Microsoft 365 or similar cloud-based environments

Systems Administration

Assist in managing servers (on-prem and/or cloud-based)
Monitor system performance and ensure uptime and reliability
Perform routine maintenance, updates, and patch management
Support backup and disaster recovery solutions
Maintain endpoint security solutions and enforce IT policies

Networking & Infrastructure (Required Experience)

Design, configure, deploy, and maintain small business network environments
Set up and manage network equipment including:
Routers
Switches
Firewalls
Wireless access points
Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and basic routing
Monitor and resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues
Implement and maintain network security best practices
Assist with firewall configuration and policy management
Perform network diagnostics, performance monitoring, and optimization
Understand and work with structured cabling basics (Cat5e/Cat6, patch panels, labeling, testing)
Not responsible for large-scale cabling projects, but must understand standards and assist when necessary

Small Business Environment Focus

Support and manage IT infrastructures typically ranging from 5–100 users
Be comfortable operating as the primary IT resource for smaller client environments
Understand cost-effective small business solutions while maintaining security and reliability standards
Provide guidance and recommendations appropriate for small-to-mid-sized organizations

IT Operations & Projects

Assist with IT infrastructure upgrades and system implementations
Participate in office build-outs and network expansions
Document systems, configurations, and procedures
Coordinate with vendors and service providers
Maintain IT asset inventory and lifecycle management

Required Qualifications

Strong hands-on networking experience
Experience configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and network troubleshooting
Demonstrated experience supporting small business network environments
Experience with Windows Server and Active Directory
Experience supporting Microsoft 365 or similar cloud platforms
Knowledge of endpoint security and patch management
Understanding of basic cabling and physical network infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications

Enterprise network environment experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similar certifications
Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.)
Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
Experience with VoIP systems

Proactive mindset toward infrastructure stability and security
Ability to manage multiple client environments effectively
