Position Description:
About the Role
DACUT Cannabis is seeking an exceptional retail operator to lead one of the highest-volume cannabis retail operations in Michigan. This is not a traditional dispensary manager role. We are looking for a leader who has successfully operated a large, complex, fast-moving retail business—someone who develops leaders, installs operational discipline, protects inventory accuracy, moves customers efficiently, and delivers a consistent customer experience regardless of volume.
Cannabis experience is welcomed but not required. Our experienced cannabis leadership team will teach you our products, compliance obligations, systems, and industry. What we cannot teach is how to operate a world-class retail business. That is what we are hiring for.
What Makes This Role Different
Your office is the sales floor. You will lead through people, not paperwork. Our corporate teams own recruiting, Human Resources, marketing, finance, legal, SOP development, and enterprise training so your time goes where it creates the greatest value: coaching leaders, developing people, improving execution, and solving problems in real time.
This role carries genuine operational ownership. You will be accountable for the overall performance of the business—its people, customer experience, inventory, labor model, and financial results—with the authority and support to truly lead the operation.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & People Development
-
Lead, coach, and develop a large retail team through Assistant General Managers, Floor Supervisors, and department leaders.
-
Set clear expectations and hold leadership accountable to defined KPIs.
-
Build a culture of accountability, urgency, ownership, and operational excellence.
-
Develop future leaders through daily coaching, mentoring, and direct feedback.
-
Build a strong succession bench capable of operating the business in your absence.
-
Address employee performance issues promptly, fairly, and consistently.
Operational Excellence
-
Own flawless day-to-day execution across every area of the store.
-
Build routines, checklists, and operational controls that make execution repeatable rather than personality dependent.
-
Identify operational constraints and implement solutions that improve efficiency and customer experience.
-
Partner with corporate teams to successfully implement company initiatives.
-
Ensure execution of all regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements while maintaining company standards.
Critical Thinking & Decision Making
-
Anticipate operational challenges before they occur and build systems that prevent them.
-
Make confident decisions under pressure with incomplete information.
-
Diagnose root causes rather than simply treating symptoms.
-
Balance strategic thinking with tactical execution.
-
Remain calm, decisive, and solution-oriented during peak business periods.
-
Continuously think several steps ahead while leading a fast-moving retail operation.
Customer Experience
-
Deliver an exceptional customer experience on every visit.
-
Monitor customer traffic patterns and continuously improve store flow.
-
Reduce customer wait times through effective scheduling, labor deployment, and process improvements.
-
Lead teams that efficiently move long lines without sacrificing quality, compliance, or service.
-
Resolve customer concerns in a manner that earns long-term customer loyalty.
-
Sales Leadership
-
Build a sales culture through coaching rather than pressure.
-
Develop strong product knowledge throughout the team.
-
Increase average transaction value and items per transaction through education and consultative selling.
-
Ensure promotions are executed accurately and on schedule.
-
Coach employees to confidently recommend products that genuinely fit customer needs.
Inventory & Operational Control
-
Treat inventory accuracy as a non-negotiable operational standard.
-
Reduce inventory shrink through process discipline and accountability.
-
Execute merchandising standards and oversee replenishment and back-of-house operations.
-
Ensure cycle counts are completed accurately and on schedule.
-
Investigate inventory variances promptly and implement process improvements to prevent future discrepancies.
Labor & Productivity
-
Manage payroll as a percentage of sales while maintaining exceptional customer service.
-
Build schedules that align staffing with actual customer traffic patterns.
-
Adjust labor deployment in real time based on business needs.
-
Maximize productivity per labor hour while protecting the customer experience.
How Performance Is Measured
Success in this role is measured by results, not activity. Key performance indicators include:
-
Customer experience, including service metrics, wait times, transaction times, customer feedback, and issue resolution.
-
Sales performance, including revenue, average transaction value, units per transaction, and promotional execution.
-
Inventory integrity, including inventory accuracy, shrink, variance resolution, and inventory aging.
-
Labor efficiency, including payroll performance, productivity, and schedule adherence.
-
Leadership development, including employee retention, internal promotions, bench strength, and engagement.
-
Operational discipline, including audit results, compliance, and consistency across all shifts.
Qualifications
Required
-
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive retail leadership experience, including high-volume retail operations.
-
Experience leading large teams in fast-paced, customer-facing environments.
-
Demonstrated success coaching and developing managers and supervisors.
-
Strong inventory management and operational control experience.
-
Experience managing labor productivity, scheduling, payroll, and operational KPIs.
-
Exceptional leadership, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
-
Proven ability to build accountability and operational discipline.
-
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
-
Must be at least 21 years of age and able to obtain and maintain all state-required cannabis employment credentials.
Preferred
-
Multi-unit or multi-department retail leadership experience.
-
Experience opening, scaling, or turning around high-volume retail locations.
-
Experience working within highly regulated or heavily audited industries.
-
Experience with POS systems, workforce management platforms, and inventory management software.
-
Previous cannabis industry experience is preferred but not required.
-
Backgrounds in large-format retail, warehouse clubs, grocery, specialty retail, big-box retail, hospitality, quick-service restaurants, or omnichannel retail are highly desirable.
Who Will Thrive Here
You are an operator. You enjoy building teams, coaching leaders, solving problems, and creating structure where none existed. You would rather be on the sales floor during peak business than sitting behind a desk. You measure your success by the leaders you develop, not simply the tasks you complete.
You are energized by volume rather than overwhelmed by it and maintain high standards even when it would be easier not to.
This role is not the right fit for someone seeking a predictable, low-volume environment or a position where the majority of the work is administrative.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
-
Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, twist, and climb as job duties require.
-
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
-
Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
-
Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment for extended periods.
-
Ability to use computers, tablets, POS systems, and inventory management software.
-
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require.
What We Offer
-
Competitive salary based on experience
-
Performance-based bonus opportunity
-
Medical, dental, and vision insurance
-
Paid Time Off
-
Employee discount program
-
Career advancement opportunities within a rapidly growing organization
-
Ongoing leadership development and executive support
-
Opportunity to lead one of Michigan's busiest and fastest-growing cannabis retail stores
