Job Description: Field Construction Supervisor

Department: Construction & Operations
Reports To: Project Manager
Location: Fort Smith, AR
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Construction Supervisor oversees all day-to-day field operations related to fiber-optic installation, underground utility work, and outside plant (OSP) construction across Washington.

This role ensures all projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with company standards, client specifications, and state/local regulations.

The Supervisor reviews vendor-provided maps, validates footage and routing, inspects field conditions for accuracy, and performs quality control to ensure work is completed as designed. The ideal candidate is proactive and solution-oriented, ensuring all operational commitments are met or exceeded.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Management

Oversee daily construction activities for aerial and underground fiber-optic installation.
Conduct daily site visits across Washington to monitor progress, safety, and compliance.
Ensure proper installation of conduit, handholes, and site restoration.
Assist with traffic control needs in the field when required (not responsible for scheduling).
Pull permitting-related information from Fieldwire and support QC and permit-closure activities.
Support locate processes and ensure adherence to proper field procedures.

Map Review & Verification

Review vendor-submitted maps, construction prints, as-builts, and engineering drawings.
Verify total footage, splice points, routing, and material usage.
Compare maps to actual field conditions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Identify discrepancies and communicate corrections to vendors.

Quality Control & Compliance

Perform QC inspections to confirm workmanship meets company and client standards and is built as designed.
Ensure all construction activities comply with OSHA, DOT, and State/local regulations.
Maintain detailed documentation, including photos, redlines, and progress reports.

Vendor Coordination

Support internal technicians and subcontractors based on project priorities.
Provide coaching and guidance to internal technicians and vendors as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Communicate clearly with internal technicians and vendors regarding expectations, deficiencies, and corrective actions.

Project Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate records, production logs, and daily/weekly reporting.
Notify leadership of delays, hazards, or changes that impact schedule or cost.
Support project planning and scheduling across Washington.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in fiber-optic construction, OSP, telecommunications, or underground utility construction.
Strong knowledge of underground construction methods (trenching, HDD drilling, conduit installation, etc.).
Experience reading maps, engineering prints, and as-built drawings.
Familiarity with Washington municipality requirements, permitting, and utility standards is a plus.
Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to oversee crews and subcontractors.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excel proficiency required.
Experience with Smartsheet is a plus but not required.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel daily to job sites across Washington.
Experience using Fieldwire is a strong plus but not required.
Fluent in Spanish required
