Full Job Description

The Therapy Aide’s primary job responsibility is to perform various functions in the therapy clinic which includes, but is not limited to: assisting the Therapist with patient related activities, preparing the patient for therapy, preparing equipment for therapy sessions, and general cleaning.

1. Performs selected treatment procedure which are commensurate with his/her training and are assigned to him/her by the Therapist.

2. Receives work assignments and data concerning preparation for and performance of tasks.

3. Assists physical therapist and physical therapist assistant in administering treatment tests and evaluations.

4. Obtains equipment, materials, and supplies from storage areas and positions them appropriately for use.

5. Prepares equipment, such as hydrotherapy tanks, paraffin bath, and hot packs by filling tanks, checking and adjusting temperature controls, and setting automatic timing devices.

6. Transports patients to and from treatment area, using transportation and transfer techniques appropriate to patients’ conditions.

7. Assists patients to dress, undress and put on and remove assistive and supportive devices, such as braces, splints and slings, prior to and after treatments.

8. Assists patients in apply and fit of braces and corsets as instructed by therapist and educating patient in proper alignment and wear of brace.

9. Secures patients into or off of physical therapy equipment.

10. Supports, turns, and stabilizes patients to assist physical therapist or physical therapist assistant in administering treatments, tests, and evaluations.

11. Administers routine treatments, such as hydrotherapy, hot and cold packs, and paraffin bath, as directed by Physical Therapist.

12. Safeguards, motivates and assists patients practicing exercises and functional activities.

13. Observes patients during treatments and reports signs of fatigue, distress, pain or other problems.

15. Changes linens and arranges treatment supplies and equipment according to standard procedure or written or oral instructions.

16. Assists with clerical responsibilities as needed, e.g., filing, ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, answering phones, billing and computer data entry.

17. Assists in maintaining a general orderly and clean state throughout the office.

18. Assists in the public relations aspect of promoting the clinical setting through occasional community inservices.

19. Performs related duties as assigned.

20. Adheres to all safety policies, privacy policies and patient medical precautions.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Ability to read, write, and communicate routine information; ability to work reliably from written instructions. High school graduate or equivalent. Clerical aptitude necessary. Certified in CPR or working to obtain certification.
