Full Job Description

Position Summary

Nutter Corporation is seeking an experienced Job Site Safety Coordinator to oversee and manage all day-to-day safety activities on a heavy civil construction project.

This is a field-based position responsible for working directly with project supervision and crews, providing guidance and partnership in safety and health planning, hazard identification and corrective action, conducting site audits, maintaining required safety documentation, assisting crews with JHAs and ensuring that work is performed in accordance with company safety requirements and applicable OSHA/LNI regulations.

The ideal candidate is proactive, highly visible in the field, comfortable working directly with construction crews, and willing to stop or correct unsafe work when necessary.

Responsibilities

Manage and oversee daily safety operations for the assigned heavy civil construction site.
Perform routine job site inspections and identify unsafe conditions, practices, and potential hazards.
Work directly with the Project Manager, Superintendent, Foremen, employees, and subcontractors to maintain a strong job site safety culture.
Ensure employees and subcontractors comply with project safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and established safe work practices.
Review planned work activities and assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and other safety planning.
Conduct and document safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and site-specific safety training.
Monitor high-risk construction activities including excavation and trenching, heavy equipment operations, lifting and rigging, traffic control, work around utilities, confined spaces, and fall hazards.
Verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Identify hazards and take immediate action to correct unsafe conditions.
Exercise stop-work authority when an imminent safety hazard exists.
Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and other safety-related events.
Complete required safety reports, inspection records, incident documentation, and corrective-action tracking.

Qualifications

Minimum of two years of previous construction safety experience required
Working knowledge of OSHA/ Washington Labor and Industries construction safety regulations.
Knowledge of excavation, trenching, heavy equipment, traffic control, lifting/rigging, fall protection, and other common heavy civil construction hazards.
First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
CHST preferred
OSHA 30 completed within last five years
Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and confidently address them with employees, supervisors, and subcontractors.
Ability to work around heavy equipment, uneven terrain, excavation operations, dust, noise, weather, and changing job site conditions.
Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with other contractors and crews.
Be familiar with Microsoft products such as word and excel.

The successful candidate will build relationships with crews, communicate expectations clearly, recognize hazards before they become incidents, and work with project leadership to keep employees safe while keeping the project moving.

This position requires someone who is willing to be actively involved in daily construction operations and who takes personal ownership of job site safety.

Pay: $35.00 per hour
