PRN Position
An exceptional, highly regarded plastic surgery practice in Sarasota is seeking an experienced OR Circulating and PACU Registered Nurse to join our surgical team full-time.
This position includes both circulating during plastic surgery procedures and providing Phase I and Phase II postoperative recovery care. Candidates must have previous OR circulating and PACU experience. Experience in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, or an ambulatory surgical setting is strongly preferred.

OR Circulating Responsibilities
- Serve as the circulating nurse during plastic surgery procedures
- Complete and verify preoperative documentation, surgical consents, patient identification, allergies, and required testing
- Participate in surgical time-outs and ensure compliance with patient-safety protocols
- Prepare the operating room and confirm that required equipment, medications, instruments, implants, and supplies are available
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, grounding pad placement, and other surgical preparations
- Maintain awareness of the sterile field and immediately address any breaks in sterile technique
- Perform and document surgical counts with the surgical technologist or scrub team
- Document intraoperative care accurately and thoroughly
- Coordinate communication among the surgeon, anesthesia provider, surgical team, and recovery staff
- Monitor and advocate for the patient’s safety, dignity, privacy, and comfort
- Label, document, and manage surgical specimens according to established protocols
- Assist with room turnover and preparation between surgical cases
- Help maintain required logs, emergency supplies, medications, and equipment
- Follow infection-control, medication-safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards
- Participate in emergency preparedness, quality improvement, and staff training activities
PACU Responsibilities
- Provide Phase I and Phase II postoperative recovery care
- Receive patients from the operating room and obtain a complete handoff from the surgical and anesthesia teams
- Continuously assess and document airway, respiratory status, circulation, neurological status, pain, nausea, surgical sites, dressings, drains, and overall recovery
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in a patient’s condition or potential postoperative complications
- Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders and established protocols
- Monitor patients until established discharge criteria are met
- Complete and document the appropriate postoperative recovery and discharge scoring
- Review postoperative instructions, medications, restrictions, warning signs, and follow-up requirements with patients and their responsible caregivers
- Confirm that patients meet all discharge requirements before leaving the facility
- Coordinate patient discharge and ensure a safe transition from the recovery area
- Maintain emergency equipment, medications, supplies, logs, and required documentation
- Participate in emergency preparedness, quality improvement, and staff training activities
- Contribute to a supportive, efficient, and positive surgical environment
Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Florida Registered Nurse license
- Previous OR circulating experience required
- Previous PACU experience required
- Experience providing Phase I and Phase II recovery care required
- Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery experience strongly preferred
- Ambulatory surgery or office-based surgical experience preferred
- Current BLS certification required
- Current ACLS certification required
- Strong airway assessment, postoperative monitoring, and emergency-response skills
- Thorough understanding of sterile technique, surgical safety, infection prevention, and perioperative documentation
- Familiarity with surgical counts, specimen handling, medication administration, discharge criteria, and postoperative recovery scoring
- Ability to recognize and respond promptly to postoperative complications
- Excellent clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and organizational skills
- Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon, anesthesia provider, and surgical team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Comfortable working with a highly specialized cosmetic surgery patient population
Schedule
This is a PRN position. The schedule will be based on the surgical calendar, so flexibility with start and end times is required.
