- GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Prepares and implements developmentally appropriate activities designed to meet the individual needs of children to foster independence and self-esteem.
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of CDA or CDA Equivalent.
- Pre-K Teacher position may require minimal Bachelors Degree and Florida Teaching Certificate.
- Minimum one year classroom experience
- Enroll within 90 days and complete 40 hour child care training courses or master exemption tests within one year of employment.
- Complete minimum of 10 clock hours of continuing education annually relative to early childhood education/child care/child development.
- PRINCIPLE DUTIES
- Complete comprehensive assessment of child within 60 days of enrollment to determine developmental level and intervention goals.
- Develop an individual treatment plan in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team to accomplish educational goals as determined by the teacher, therapists and parents.
- Implement the individualized educational plan of care utilizing developmentally appropriate intervention and educational strategies based on current research, data and educational models.
- Prepare weekly lesson plans that provide educational activities designed to support the developmental goals of children in classroom.
- Conditionally monitor with ongoing assessment the educational outcomes and revise plan of care according to child’s performance and progress and feedback from parents and therapists.
- Consult with parents in child assessment and intervention planning and evaluation on an ongoing basis.
- Complete parent-teacher conferences at a minimum of every six months.
- Maintain paperwork pertinent to children’s educational program:
- Child Development Assessment (initial and minimum of every six month re-assessments)
- ECE Plan of Care
- Updated Plan of Care as needed
- Daily Progress Notes—Parent Communication
- Quarterly Progress Reports
- Participate and prepare for IEP or IFSP at least annually
- Closing Summary within two weeks of discharge
- Parent-Teacher Conference Record
- Weekly Lesson Plans
- Daily Attendance
- Substitute Teacher Plans
- Parent Training Log, Medication Administration Log, Incident Reports and Illness Report as indicated
- Implement classroom procedures that meet or exceed required service elements of:
- Department of Children and Families Child Care Licensing Requirements
- State and local statutes for Child Care
- National Accreditation standards of NAEYC
- Sarasota County School Board Contract for Exceptional Student Education Pre-K Programs
- Early Steps Developmental Day Treatment Services
- Provide ongoing supervision, training and guidance of Teaching Assistants and Volunteers in classroom.
- Discuss daily plans, activities and expectations with Teaching Assistants.
- Maintain a clean, safe, healthy and developmentally-appropriate learning environment in classroom and other play areas for children.
- Maintain positive staff-child interactions and provide optimal supervision to protect children’s health and safety while encouraging children to explore independently and develop self-sufficiency skills.
- Responsibility and dependability are essential qualities for this position; regular attendance and punctuality are required.

- Complies with agency/state/legal mandates for reporting suspected abuse/maltreatment/neglect or person at risk of homicide/suicide to appropriate authorities and completes all necessary paperwork.
- Attends staff meetings. Standard 90% attendance.
- Ability to complete assigned paperwork in compliance with standards, including time sheets, mileage logs, leave requests, client evaluations and progress notes, and management information system.
- Ability to provide quality services to clients and families as evidenced by assessment of services and the quality improvement system.
