Under general direction, accurately
transcribes verbatim all required or requested court hearings. Produces official, verbatim transcripts of court proceedings in conformity with court standards; accurately reads back the record upon request; and performs related duties.
This is a journey level classification in which incumbents are responsible for independently providing court reporting or voice writing services within assigned courtroom or other court proceedings. Work may involve real time transcription, traditional stenographic recording,
or use of voice writing media. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Makes a verbatim record of all court proceedings;

Provides real-time transcription or reads back record of proceedings;

Asks judge and other speakers for clarification of testimony, instructions, orders, or actions;

Produces and certifies formal, written transcripts; archives court reports and transcripts;

Organizes and ensures official records security;

Receives and processes transcript requests; estimates cost of transcripts;

Researches medical, legal and technical terminology as well as case citations and related information;

Develops and modifies custom software dictionaries; sets up and maintains court reporting or voice writing, transcription, and archival equipment.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified Per Diem Court Reporters. Placement on the list of
qualified Per Diem Court Reporter List will be prioritized based in the order that a complete and thorough job application is received and processed, during this recruitment.

APPLICATION EVALUATION: All applications received will be evaluated based on the requirements of the position. A comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to a selection interview.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Working in any of the Ventura Superior Court facilities requires employees to be subject to security screening by security personnel who use a combination of walk-through and handheld screening devices.
