Position Overview
The Courtyard by Marriott in Williston, Vermont is seeking a motivated, hands-on Bistro/Operations Manager to join our hotel leadership team.
This position combines responsibility for the daily operation of the hotel Bistro with broader hotel operations support. The ideal candidate is a hospitality professional who enjoys leading people, working directly with guests, solving problems, and making sure the hotel operates smoothly and efficiently.
The Bistro/Operations Manager will be highly visible throughout the property and will work closely with the General Manager and department leaders to maintain excellent guest service, operational standards, cleanliness, safety, and overall hotel performance.
Key Responsibilities Bistro & Food and Beverage Operations
- Oversee the daily operation of the Courtyard Bistro, including breakfast, dinner, beverage, and bar service as applicable.
- Ensure exceptional guest service and a welcoming Bistro environment.
- Train, coach, schedule, and supervise Bistro employees.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on occupancy, business demand, and hotel events.
- Ensure food and beverages are prepared and presented according to established standards.
- Monitor food quality, portion control, freshness, and presentation.
- Manage Bistro inventory, ordering, receiving, storage, and product rotation.
- Control food and beverage costs while minimizing waste and spoilage.
- Maintain accurate cash handling, POS transactions, deposits, and daily financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked Bistro, kitchen, bar, and storage areas.
- Monitor guest feedback and resolve food and beverage-related concerns promptly.
Hotel Operations Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager with the overall daily operation of the hotel.
- Serve as a manager-on-duty when assigned.
- Monitor hotel operations throughout the property and identify issues requiring attention.
- Work closely with Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Sales, and other departments to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Assist with resolving guest complaints and service recovery situations.
- Conduct regular property inspections to ensure cleanliness, appearance, safety, and operational standards are maintained.
- Follow up on maintenance, housekeeping, guest-service, and operational issues.
- Communicate important operational information to department managers and hotel leadership.
- Assist with managing hotel staffing needs and employee coverage when necessary.
- Support hotel opening, closing, shift-change, and daily operational procedures.
- Monitor common areas, guest areas, back-of-house areas, and exterior areas for cleanliness and safety.
- Assist with emergency procedures and respond appropriately to situations involving guests, employees, or the property.
- Help ensure hotel policies, procedures, brand standards, and safety requirements are consistently followed.
- Assist management with inspections, audits, quality assurance, and brand compliance.
- Support special events, group business, high-occupancy periods, and other hotel operational needs.
- Communicate effectively with guests and employees and maintain a professional presence throughout the property.
Team Leadership
- Lead by example and promote a positive, professional work environment.
- Train and develop employees to meet hotel and Bistro service standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
- Assist with hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and training new employees.
- Hold employees accountable for attendance, appearance, performance, and customer service.
- Recognize strong employee performance and encourage teamwork.
- Address employee concerns professionally and communicate significant issues to hotel leadership.
- Promote cooperation between departments and encourage a team-oriented culture.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Monitor Bistro sales, labor costs, food costs, and operating expenses.
- Assist with departmental budgeting and expense control.
- Monitor inventory levels and purchasing practices.
- Review daily operational reports and identify areas requiring attention.
- Assist with payroll, scheduling, timekeeping, and other administrative functions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Assist the General Manager with achieving hotel financial and operational goals.
Guest Experience
The Bistro/Operations Manager is expected to be a visible presence for guests and employees. This position will help create a positive guest experience by:
- Greeting guests and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
- Responding quickly and professionally to guest concerns.
- Taking ownership of problems rather than simply passing them along.
- Following through to ensure issues are resolved.
- Maintaining high standards throughout the property.

Qualifications
- Previous hotel, restaurant, hospitality, or food and beverage management experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond effectively to changing hotel needs.
- Basic knowledge of hotel operations, food service, sanitation, and safety procedures.
- Experience with scheduling, inventory control, and cost management preferred.
- Computer skills and ability to learn hotel and POS systems.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Must be comfortable working mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by hotel operations.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience with Marriott or another major hotel brand.
- Hotel management or operations experience.
- Restaurant or Bistro management experience.
- Food safety certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience with hotel PMS and POS systems.
- Experience with employee scheduling and payroll systems.
- Experience handling guest complaints and service recovery.
- Experience with quality assurance or brand inspections.

We are looking for a hands-on leader, not someone who wants to manage exclusively from an office.
The successful candidate will be willing to jump in wherever needed—whether that means helping the Bistro during a busy breakfast, assisting the Front Desk with a guest issue, checking the condition of the property, helping coordinate a maintenance concern, or supporting another department during a staffing shortage.
The Bistro/Operations Manager should be dependable, professional, approachable, and willing to take ownership of the hotel's day-to-day operation.
