Job Overview
The Safety Officer supports a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for hotel guests, team members, vendors, and visitors. This role helps monitor hotel areas, respond to safety and security concerns, document incidents, support emergency procedures, and partner with hotel leadership to promote a calm, professional, and service-focused approach to workplace and guest safety. The Safety Officer also serves as a visible point of support throughout the property, helping to identify potential safety concerns, assist with guest and team member needs, and respond appropriately to situations that may impact the hotel environment. This position requires sound judgment, clear communication, confidentiality, and the ability to balance safety awareness with the hotel’s commitment to warm, respectful hospitality.

Job Responsibilities

Safety, Security & Guest Support

Monitor assigned hotel areas to help maintain a safe and secure environment for guests, team members, vendors, and visitors.
Provide a visible and professional safety presence throughout the property while maintaining a hospitality-focused approach.
Respond promptly and appropriately to safety, security, medical, guest, or team member concerns in accordance with hotel procedures.
Assist with de-escalating concerns when appropriate and contact emergency services or hotel leadership when needed.
Support a respectful environment by treating all guests, team members, and visitors professionally and without bias.

Incident Response, Reporting & Documentation

Respond to and document incidents, accidents, safety concerns, disturbances, property concerns, and emergency situations accurately and promptly.
Follow established procedures for reports involving guest conduct, workplace safety concerns, injuries, property damage, lost and found, and emergency response.
Escalate concerns to the appropriate leader, department, or emergency personnel based on the nature and urgency of the situation.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information, reports, and guest or team member concerns.

Team Member Safety Support

Support hotel procedures related to team member safety, including response protocols for personal security device alerts, where applicable.
Assist team members who report threatening, violent, or unsafe conduct by following hotel procedures and escalating concerns appropriately.
Help maintain required safety-related documentation in accordance with hotel procedures and applicable law.
Conduct duties in a manner that supports compliance with applicable Los Angeles hotel worker safety protections and anti-retaliation requirements.

Patrols, Access Control & Operational Support

Conduct routine patrols of assigned areas, which may include public spaces, back-of-house areas, parking areas, entrances, exits, and other hotel spaces.
Support access control procedures, key control, vendor check-in, deliveries, and visitor management as assigned.
Identify and report maintenance needs, unsafe conditions, blocked exits, hazards, or other concerns that may affect guest or team member safety.
Partner with hotel departments to support business needs, emergency preparedness, and daily operations.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.

Experience: Previous hotel security, safety, loss prevention, military, law enforcement, emergency response, or hospitality experience preferred, but not required.

Certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, guard card, or other safety/security certifications preferred if required by property needs or applicable law.

Travel required: None

Physical requirements:

Standing and walking for extended periods, including indoor and outdoor patrols
Frequent walking, reaching, bending, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting or carrying
Ability to respond to urgent situations throughout the hotel, including public areas, back-of-house areas, and guest-facing spaces
Ability to work in varying conditions, including noise, crowds, weather exposure, and active hotel operations
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation

Skills and Abilities:

Professional, calm, and service-focused communication style
Ability to observe, assess, and respond appropriately to safety or security concerns
Ability to follow written procedures, complete accurate reports, and maintain confidentiality
Good judgment, attention to detail, and ability to remain composed during urgent situations
Ability to work collaboratively with hotel leadership, department teams, vendors, guests, and emergency personnel
Ability to use basic technology, safety equipment, radios, cameras, access systems, and incident reporting tools, as applicable
Knowledge of hospitality safety practices, emergency procedures, and workplace safety standards preferred
Availability to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts based on business needs
