Job Summary and Qualifications

The Child Life Specialist provides a therapeutic environment for the hospitalized child and family. The CLS evaluates the adjustment to the hospital environment and provides emotional support to patients and their families. The CLS acts as a resource for members of the healthcare team.
What you will do in this role:
Assesses the child’s developmental abilities and adjustment to hospital setting, for the therapeutic plan of care.
Interprets data and evaluates responses
Uses therapeutic techniques to prepare patients for treatments / procedures to reduce stress and trauma
Provides a therapeutic environment, working with families/support groups
Researches the latest trends concerning children in the hospital environment
Uses expertise act as a resource both intra- and inter-departmentally
Utilizes medical terminology appropriately
Supports the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values
Qualifications:
CCLS certification by the Child Life Council
BLS from the American Heart Association
Minimum of one year of experience preferred

HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital is a 380-bed acute-care hospital. Offering a full range of services. We are home to the most experienced Heart Institute on the Treasure Coast. Lawnwood Hospital provides interventional and therapeutic care, including open-heart surgery. Other hospital services include labor/delivery, pediatrics, orthopedics, oncology, nuclear medicine, adult and pediatric emergency services, and diagnostic services. We also offer inpatient, and outpatient surgical services.

Lawnwood Hospital is a designated Certified Primary Stroke Center. The Physical Rehabilitation Center is CARF accredited. We are a Level II Trauma Center. We are verified by the American College of Surgeons. We offer a freestanding ER in Vero Beach. We provide emergency treatment for adults and children.
