Position Overview

The Benefits & Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the administration of employee benefits and payroll operations while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and operational excellence. This role oversees health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, leave of absence programs, and multi-state payroll processing. The position partners with HR, Finance, Operations, and third-party vendors to optimize systems, strengthen compliance, and deliver an exceptional employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

Oversee administration of health and welfare, retirement, and leave of absence programs.
Manage annual Open Enrollment, vendor relationships, and employee communications.
Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and applicable state regulations.
Analyze benefit programs and recommend process improvements.

Payroll Administration

Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce.
Ensure payroll accuracy, tax compliance, audits, reconciliations, and year-end processing.
Partner with Finance on payroll reporting, general ledger reconciliations, and compliance.
Resolve complex payroll issues and oversee payroll vendor performance.

Systems & Compliance

Maintain HRIS, payroll, and benefits system integrity, including file feeds and integrations.
Partner with HRIS and IT on system enhancements, reporting, and implementation projects.
Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls for payroll and benefits.
Monitor compliance, identify operational risks, and implement continuous process improvements.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of progressive experience managing payroll and benefits in a multi-state environment.
Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (Workday preferred).
Strong knowledge of payroll processing, benefits administration, leave management, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and vendor management skills.

Pay: From $95,000.00 per year
