Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Level III Data Center Technician to support field projects in data center, telecom, cloud, AI, and critical infrastructure environments.
This is a hands-on role for someone who knows how to work inside live technical environments, takes pride in clean fiber work, and can be trusted to get the job done correctly without constant supervision. The right person will have strong experience with fiber installation, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and inside plant infrastructure.
This role requires heavy travel and is best suited for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in high-expectation client environments.
What You’ll Do
- Install, route, dress, label, and organize fiber optic and structured cabling.
- Work in data centers, telecom facilities, central offices, and enterprise network environments.
- Perform fiber testing using OTDRs, light source/power meters, visual fault locators, fiber scopes, and cleaning tools.
- Troubleshoot physical-layer issues such as high-loss links, dirty connectors, polarity issues, incorrect patching, bend-radius violations, and labeling problems.
- Install and organize equipment in racks, cabinets, fiber trays, patch panels, ladder rack, and cable management systems.
- Support site surveys, infrastructure audits, port mapping, rack elevations, redlines, and field documentation.
- Take clear photos, provide daily updates, and submit accurate test results and project notes.
- Read and follow scopes of work, site procedures, drawings, and client standards.
- Maintain clean, professional workmanship in live data center environments.
- Help train junior technicians and support small field teams when needed.
- Communicate professionally with project managers, site contacts, and client representatives.
- Follow all safety, access, and site-specific requirements.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center, telecom, inside plant, fiber optic, or critical infrastructure environments.
- Strong fiber optic installation, testing, troubleshooting, dressing, and labeling experience.
- Experience working in live data center or production network environments.
- Ability to use and interpret results from OTDRs, light meters, power meters, fiber scopes, and related testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of bend radius, slack management, fiber protection, pathway discipline, and clean cable dressing.
- Experience with racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable management, labeling, and structured cabling.
- Good documentation habits, including photos, redlines, test results, audit notes, and daily field updates.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Willingness to travel for project-based work.
Preferred Experience
- Hyperscaler, cloud, AI infrastructure, telecom backbone, or large data center experience.
- Experience with fiber audits, network optimization, site documentation, and quality reviews.
- Experience acting as a field lead or training less experienced technicians.
- BICSI, FOA CFOT, OSHA 10/30, Corning, CommScope, Panduit, Leviton, Fluke, EXFO, or similar certifications.
Who Will Succeed in This Role
The right person for this role is someone who takes pride in doing clean, accurate work. We are looking for a technician who pays attention to the details, communicates clearly, follows site rules, and does not cut corners.
You should be comfortable working around live infrastructure, asking good questions when something is unclear, and documenting your work in a way that allows the client and project team to understand exactly what was completed.
This is a good fit for someone who wants steady field work, travel opportunities, significant overtime potential, and the chance to be part of projects supporting the infrastructure behind data centers, cloud, AI, telecom, and enterprise networks.
Compensation
This is an hourly position paying approximately $38–$46 per hour, depending on experience, with overtime opportunities. Strong candidates with advanced fiber testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and field leadership experience may be considered at a higher rate.
