MAJOR FUNCTION:
The Surgical Scheduler performs standardized scheduling and business operations in support of Surgical and Interventional Business Services, a centralized department responsible for coordinating surgical, interventional radiology, and cardiology procedures across all Medical Centers and the Vineland Endoscopy Center. This role independently manages procedural scheduling activities, including patient coordination, verification of required documentation, and communication with clinical teams to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established workflows. The Surgical Scheduler serves as a primary point of contact for patients throughout the procedural process and supports a consistent, high-quality patient experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:

Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical hospital role or similar clerical role in a physician practice setting required. Experience as a Medical Assistant or clinical technician highly preferred.

Experience in health insurance environment or related work experience required.

High School required.

Experience scheduling in Cerner and using applications such as NJ Shine, insurance verification/ eligibility tools, patient liability estimation tools (NaviNet, Waystar and Soarian Financials) preferred.
Knowledge & Skills

Strong knowledge of clinical / medical practice operations, procedures, medical/ surgical terminology, anatomy, and administrative procedures required.

Demonstrating a proficiency of Microsoft computer applications with a minimum score of 80%.

Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems required.

Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines required.

Maintains high level of knowledge and skill in the use of appropriate electronic systems to obtain and provide information.

Always courteous and maintains a pleasant, professional voice during phone communications and co-workers.

Ability to use multi-line telephone system, fax, typewriter, copier.

Must be proactive, self-motivated, able to multitask and organize work independently.

Willing to extend a helping hand in any person in need of our services.

Understanding of DRG’s, Surgical/ Medical ICD-10 codes and CPT/HCPC Codes and Modifiers.

Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and the community.

Capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers.
